Hello.

Any help would be great.

I have an 86 HJ60. It starts up fine. It seems to idle fine. If I'm at a stop sign I step on the accelerator the engine goes for a second or two then stalls. It's then hard to start and a huge cloud of black smoke erupts. If I'm going along at 55 miles it runs fine just not in stop and go traffic.

I changed out the fuel filter a month ago.

Thanks.

Tom

Could it be the engine shut down cap? (The 2H closes the intake to shut down if I'm not mistaken?). I'm not entirely sure on how that mechanism works. (magnetic or vacuum or what)

Seems like you''re getting lots of fuel

Good luck

You might have an air leak. And it screwing you up.

Try re-bleeding the air out of the system. Run the handprimer with the bleed screw on the filter open. Then close the screw before it runs out.

Also with the engine idling, crack the injection lines half a turn, one at time and retighten. You are cracking them at the injector. Sometime air gets in there and it doesn't pass thru the system. After doing nozzles I got air out a few times after.

Use a rag to catch the fuel as you open the line. It mists not sprays. One banana type work. (means easy)

Did it come on slow and get worse ,or did it happen instantly?
I would try the fuel system bleed as others have said ,and a new air filter.

If that dont cure it I would have the injectors looked at/tested.
Does it make much smoke under load or at any time and what colour?
(apart from when you restart it)

I think I figured out the stalling problem.

It looks like it was the low oil pressure switch. I had the oil changed and that seem to take care of the problem. Maybe I should check my oil level more than once every 3 months. Thanks for everyone’s help.
