Helo everyone! My friend recently imported an HJ60 and it has been starting fine and driving great with no problems. This past weekend he went to start the vehicle and it was just clicking and the negative terminal of the 2nd battery was sparking pretty bad (24v battery system). We took a look at it and can hear some vibration from the main glow plug relay. We also thought that it could potentially be the starter relay. At one point there was some smoke that was coming from behind the dash so that confused us even further. Wanted to see if anyone has had this problem and found the solution, or has any input? Thanks!

If the headlights got upgraded in the past but the headlight wiring harness wasn’t — that’s a likely suspect. The headlights and lots of accessories all ground together in a little junky thing behind the dash. It can’t handle the increased current flowing through it from bigger headlights - and it gets smoked.

But seeing sparks jump from the battery terminal isn’t related. That’s a serious problem. I don’t know what would cause that.

if the sparks are coming from the battery connections then the connection is bad. clean them up for replace them. if the sparks are coming from somewhere else follow the sparks.

Interesting, I think the lights are oem but I will check to see if there are any accessories that have been added. Thanks for the feedback!

We are planning to look at it again this week sometime. I will definitely double check the connection. May need to replace the battery terminal connectors.
