Hey guys, My name is Kai, i am in Australia, I have a 1980 HJ47 troop carrier, It is my daily driver, and since January i have done almost 30 000km, so i drive ALOT. I currently have 16" sunraysia steel rims and 31" Bridgestone Desert Dueller tyres. My tyres are almost on the indicators so within the next 10 000km i will probably need to replace them.
My truck does not have any suspension modifications, i think the rear has sagged a little. I have flares on the front and rear for the extra width with my tyres.
Looking at different tyres on the market, i think the BF Goodrich All Terrain, seem to have a pretty decent review, and also a long life.

So my question. Can i change to 33" tyres without changing my suspension, as the tyre increase will supposedly increase my fuel efficiency slightly, as well as an increase in height. What tyres do you suggest, i am on a budget but i would prefer to get something that will last a few years that is more expensive then something that i will be replacing in 1 or 2 years.

Also, at the moment i do mostly highway driving. When i do go off road it is usually bush (Grass, dirt, little rocks) or its really fine mud. Because of this, i do not want a complete on road tyre. otherwise there is no point to a 4x4 IMO.

I have been to two tyre places for quotes, one said yes too 33" the other said no. So i thought i would ask the experts. Current Quote was $320 each for 31" BF Goodrich, so around that price is kinda what i am expecting. and i do not have enough money to do suspension lift plus new tyres. I was worried about the extra width of 33" tyres as well.
Cheers everyone
Kai
