Guys
Aside from the Detours of Maine rear tire, hitch mounted carrier, are there other options that allow for the full use of the tailgate? I love the wescott designs look, but I know they don’t allow the tailgate to lower.

I am going to stick to rear mounted because it has to be powder coated every two years or so here in WI.

I too am looking for a hitch mounted tire carrier that 1. allows use of the tailgate, and 2. does not decrease departure angle. I have a design that I think will work but dont have fabrication skills.

Hard to imagine any hitch carrier that wouldn't decrease departure angle at least some.

I just had a local shop modify my detour of Maine carrier. I think it turned out pretty good!

The plate was moved to the left, if you are facing the rear of the truck and the bars holding the tire. Essentially anything that is raw steel in the photo.
