I bought a Gen 3 4Runner hitch off of Craigslist this week for $50. When I went to bolt it up the fuel tank skid plate mounts get in the way. I chatted with another owner on this board and he had the same results. It looks like the options are to either modify the hitch mount by cutting some metal off, cut the skid plate mounts and weld them to the hitch or completely butcher the hitch or the skid plate. What did you guys do? Pictures are always a bonus.

Cheers,
Dave

I unbolted the tank skid plate, added a 1/4" spacer plate between the hitch and the frame and put the skid plate on top of the hitch. The spacer was to keep it of the rear cross member that the 4Runners don't have because of the spare tire.

@Morrtac

Did you have to drill any new holes in either the hitch, or the frame? I just bought a hitch mount for a 96 4Runner, and the holes didnt line up(like an inch off). I suppose they might have sent me a wrong item though.

Thanks,

Jay

I did not have to drill any holes, And didn't have to use the plate with nuts welded to it... the Prado already has the nuts welded in the frame.
