Okay,

I was able to negotiate with Daniel Stern to get a group rate for the HIR bulbs for right at the same price I would be able to buy them in quantity and reship them. If you are interested in purchasing them, please do so soon, as the purchases must be done within a two week period. He also offers other bulbs, including Narva, so you can combine shipping and save a bit more. BE SURE TO INDICATE THAT YOU ARE FROM THE LANDCRUISER GROUP AND NOTE THE GROUP PRICEING.

Here are the prices and the contact information:

tech@candlepower.ca

OK...indicate how many of each of the following at group-buy rate:

HIR1 bulbs (High Beam) @ $34.50
HIR2 bulbs (Low Beam) @ $34.50

P3496 (brake/tail, park/turn, replaces 1157) @ $5.50

Thanks! Now what do I do with my 6 Hellas... :-X

Yes, thank you Cary for all your efforts here.. so I've read through your "other post"https://forum.ih8mud.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=12066 and that "other post" https://forum.ih8mud.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=12192;start=0 about 5x now.. I think I get it. so just to clarify, is is safe to say that..

Low beams: HIR2's are comparable to the 9012's, both of which are better than stock bulbs
Hi Beams: HIR1's are comparable to the 9011's, both of which are better than stock

So in conclusion and a fella with all stock headlights should order up both sets of bulbs, then buy the harness from Slee and be all set with super good lighting. any risk of doing the bulbs before the harness?

Thanks again for doing all the legwork. -tim

Tim, I'd be cautious with a bulb upgrade before the harness. Probably wouldn't melt the wires, but, I'll share an experience I had several months ago.

Ordered replacement bulbs...100w hi / 80 w low, if I recall. This was BEFORE the harness upgrade. One of the Hi's went out within a week......replaced it. week later, had to replace both hi-beam bulb sockets. Installed harness upgrade, no problem since.

May not be related, but thought I'd tell ya'.

Nakman,

You are correct that the HIR2=9012 fitment, and the HIR1=9011 fitment. However, as I found out with the GM 9011 bulbs a 9011 is not necessarly an HIR bulb. The bulbs here are HIR bulbs. BTW, the HIR2 did require trimming the side of the tab to install in my LC and BMW.

You do not need to order the wiring harness first to install the HIR bulbs. The HIR bulbs draw the stock wattage (55 and 65 watts) and therefore will not overload the system and you will see about a 50% increase in light output due to their extra efficiency. The wiring harness will give you that bit of extra oomph as even a .5 volt drop will substancially reduce the output of a lamp. In the case of the HIR2 (and all bulbs are similar) their light output is 1355 lumens @ 12.0 volts, 1700 lumens @ 12.8 volts, and 1875 lumens @ 13.2 volts.

If you have another car that has 9006 low beams, this would also be a good time to upgrade those bulbs or order Narva's if you have another fitment and want to get a little more light (about 10%).

CDN_Cruiser- Do what I am going to do with my extra Hella-crappy bulbs, throw them on E-bay. If you paint them with blue fingernail polish you can get at least $20 a piece.

Cary

P.S.- Nakman- you name isn't short for a Nakamichi fetish, is it?

Cool, thanks guys.. I'll be at Slee's later today so I'll most likely be picking up the harness just to stay on the safe side, and since it's worth doing anyway. Isn't Nakamichi that real high end audio stuff? I wish I could afford that fetish.. but no nakman's just a nickname I picked up in high school that just sorta stuck. thanks again.

btt

Been outta town and nearly missed it! Thanks, Cary!!!!

BTT, so people who have been out can see it before it expires.

Is the low beam and high beam bulb priced as a pair or each?

That would be each.

cary -- how do these headlight bulbs differ from the ones we were discussing back in july?? I remember back then there was a big headlight push too --

is there any way to call and order these bulbs? I prefer dealing with a person or website -- :|

Hey Cary, thanks mucho for the legwork - just a question then - what is the difference between 1157 and 1156 (can either work as brake and turn)? Also what about longevity - Do HIRs last as long as stock? I ask because $140 for highs and lows is halfway to an HID system, no?

Thanks again,

K

Theoretically, the HIR's are supposed to last almost as long as good quality, standard 55watt bulbs.

Sure, $140 is well on your way to a HID conversion ($300 for low OR high beams, double the price if you want both), but the problem is HID conversions are now illegal; anyone caught selling them can be fines up to $5,000/day.
