Hi guys. On my drive to the Rubithon I was planning to hit I80 at Wells and take that into Reno and then down to Carson to get to Tahoe where I am parking my tow rig.

Since I have the time, is it worth it to contine through Wells on 93 until I hit Ely and then take 50 west into Carson.

It looks like pretty a pretty boring drive with a lot of nothing to look at. I would stop and camp along the way somewhere for a night, just like I would along the interstate.

I don't mind stopping and reading the history placards they have at various place and I've never done that part of NV. I like stopping in small towns, but it doesn't look as though there are very many on 50.

Kev,
That all depends on you.
Me... I'll opt for desert all the way. Love it, live if and can't get enough of it. There are a few small towns along the way of 50.
Well be hitting the springs Friday evening. I'll look for you there.

No contest: Hwy 50 for everything but Walmarts. :D OTOH if you're traveling in eyes wide shut mode then 80 would get the nod...

PM me and I can give you some quality overnight spots not too far off 50...with hot springs too.

HWY 50, no doubt. I took a trip from Reno to New Jersey last fall, I-80 follows the least interesting, most boring, flattest path across America possible. IMHO it should be avoided at all possible cost.

Do PM Spressomon, he has the skinny on everything to see on that route.
I'll throw out Wheeler Peak, Cave Lake, Ward Charcoal ovens, and Berlin.

Did that he set me up with gps coordinates and play by play.

Looks like I'll be lounging in a natural hot tub monday night.

Hmmm, what kind of whiskey goes with a natural hot tub?

Jack Daniels, of course!!
JD fits ALL occasions!!

Buffalo Trace...I've tasted better but at multiples of $ higher...the best bourbon for the buck I've found.

You gotta be a body builder to drink JD :D

Myself, I'm partial to Canadian and Scotch whiskeys.

But, when in Rome...

See my favorite bourbon whiskey of all time (well so far) is Bookers. For $60 a bottle it is quite good, has a good oaky flavor with not too much peat. Still haven't found anything I like much better than it however Johnny Walker Green is a close second.

Well, no cathouses between Wells and Moundhouse on 50 whereas there are several more to choose from on 80 and you say you have the time....

But seriously, go 50 (and Alt 50 to the south west of Austin) and enjoy it. 80 is better if you are towing and can do 80 mph. It will be a little longer unfortunately, but worth it.

Whiskey

Have you tried the maple crown royal yet? That stuff is great. If you dont like maple flavor their special reserve is fantastic.
