Just curious if anyone knows of any high flow filters for the 12ht which will still filter properly but allow some more air through. Factory or factory replica filters cannot be helping performance IMHO.

Why not?
The notion that manufacturers strangle engines for the hell of it doesnt hold water.
These are slow revving torque monsters that do nearly all their work under 3000 rpm and the filtration works fine for that.

The OEM style filter is easy to find, easy to change and the filter box is also very efficient.

The only thing that maybe better is the new square type they are using on the V8 diesel 7* series

One of these will give you a bit more air. :D

Seriously, I am with Rosco. The OEM Toyota filters are excellent for filtration and air flow. In fact, I was considering swapping one in for my TD42 as the Nissan oval filter just barely provides enough air and it is fairly common for Patrol owners in some parts to swap in the Toyota assembly from a 12HT or 1HDT.

The only way you are going to get more air flow is by going with a filter assembly which uses a bigger filter cartridge - hence increased filter media area. So, I guess you could strap in or on a larger Donaldson (or similar) set-up and get more air flow. My question is have you seen any data proving that the current filtration set-up is not providing sufficient air flow.

If you're thinking about a K&N (or similar)... then it's time to stop thinking.

The factory filters are excellent. Save your money for something that is more fun.

Which landcruiser engine sucks in the most air and uses this kind of filtration? Im guessing it would be a 1FZ FE or a 1HD FTE.
Both of these would probably use more air than a 12HT so there is obviously surplus capacity for most landcruisers engine.
A B engine would probably not even use half of the OEM filter capacity

If I am not mistaken my 41,42,44,61,and 62 use the same air filters and the same or similar filter canisters.

If you are concerned about your filters flow, then get a restriction gauge and plumb it in. I run a Donaldson Informer.

You'll then see when your filter is plugged and needs cleaned (not often, landcruiser elements are oversized to give more dust capacity) and you'll see how little restriction they provide.

IMO anyone who puts a ricer filter on a 4wd needs their head read.

Looks like my post yesterday didn't make it up...

I was just curious if there was any room for improvement, doesn't sound like there is much and any potential wouldn't be worth the effort.

Thanks for the input guys. I am going to leave it as is with a clean filter and a safari snorkel soon enough! :p

You could possibley go with a bigger filter but I think you would only extend the filter change intervals.

Save your money!
Air Filtration Test
Of course it's on a mazda filter.. but you will get the idea.

PO had a k&n filter inside the stock air can. i eventually replaced with a stock OEM filter. couldn't tell you either way which sucks more air, so I am keeping what the toyota engineeers dreamed up.

stock set up seems very efficient...like everyone else, i agree that with the application for this truck, and i have the boost turned up, stock is GTG.
