As you might have guesed--I'm new! I have an interesting situation... somewhere in NOT VA, I spotted what I believe to be an FJ45 with a tow truck rig (big crane boom etc.) in the back(instead of a bed??). Here's where it gets interesting: I said "what I believe" I only saw this truck from about 10-15 feet away--it was sitting on the other side of the fence in an impound lot, and on my side were piles of old tires (thrown poorly--not good to stand on). Due to my angle, I couldn't see the back except over the cab, and because the garage is closed over the weekends, I couldn't get to it (I live 3 1/2 hrs. away, and go up there only to work frantically on the farm for 2 days a month). I believe it's a Land Cruiser, because I saw the chrome Cruiser emblem on the hood--the Land was grown over with vines/brush--the whole thing is. It also looks like a Cruiser--except for the grille. The grill looks like that of an old jeep (big horizontal fins and HUGE headlights). It was also bent out in the middle (towards the front of the truck) to make a really wide V (me thinks bigger motor..?) It looks like a case where it was their faithful truck from the time it rolled out of the plant until it's retirement in the 80's, when it was replaced by a F*rd, parked, and hasn't moved in 20 years--that's what I hope, anyways... So, until I can get up there again to investigate, I'd like to know what to look for to identify it as a long/short bed (may be modified-heavily..?), and just know about what to expect out of my first Cruiser (if I were to get it)--such as how to tell original this and that, look for worn this or that that might cause trouble during restoration, etc. I HAVE NO PRIOR CRUISER EXPERIANCE--so just about anything is helpful. THANKS A LOT--and sorry for the long post!

And BTW--should this deal not work out for me, I'll put down where I, and it, live. :)

It could be a willy's based on the angled out grill. Kind of like this one.

That looks very close-from what I remember. Hmm.. maybe I'm in the wrong forum... I'll hafta see it again to tell.

do a search and try and find brochures on the 45 to learn more about what your looking at. Maybe take some pics to show us. Also on the hood it might have a chrome strip. It shouldn't and most definately wont have a spit windsheild. They did that in the 1940s and cruisers arent that old. Basically all i can say.
