Ah...ooo...ohhh OUCH. That takes my breath away.

Yes, sliders before wheeling...got it.

What is a "Cat"?

I'd love to do Browns Camp again...very fun!

I'm refering to the cataletic(sp) converter in your exhaust system. You can see how they are outside the frame on the passenger side. See below front door in this pic. (Sorry, it was the best on I had.)

Welcome and great truck choice to build up! I'm not biased ;) . Get an ARB air locker in the back at a minimum if you really plan to take it on those trails..... or find one with lockers and similar mileage.

Adding front/rear bumpers/sliders will be a nice $2-3K if buying it all new; however they do save sheetmetal/paint work. Plan on adding 1" spacers on the front (Slee and Man a fre) sell them or the truck will have a stink bug stance (higher in the back).

I'll second the rear bumper with the spare tire provision. I gained a bunch of ground clearance when I added the Kaymar rear bumper and my rear vision wasn't really affected either. I run 285 Revos A/T tires (33's). I was dragging it all over the place on even the mellow wheeling I did.

A Transfercase (TC) skid plate should be looked at also. I just bought the OME heavy 2.5' lift, TC skiplate, upgraded headlight harness and HIR bulbs (4). I would like to add/make sliders this winter for it and maybe even a front bumper.... as Slee is dragging their feet on completing their newest styled front HD bumper for sale to the masses.

Once you go to 315/16's (35's) or larger you really need a gear change and a larger lift (ie 4-6" lift) which is when the $$$'s really add up.

Good luck. I hope to hit some trails in 2007.

Well, there is a group going to drive the Mojave Road this New Years. Hummer X Club - http://www.hummerxclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1475

I wanna take it there first. Mostly a dirt road with a few little tiny obstacles.

I saw a huge group of 80/450's last year when we went. If any of you are in the area post up, you may have to get a BLM permit.

But SHHHHHH....they don't know I'm bringing the 80 yet. I wanna surprise them;p It's and all vehicle club anyway...

So first things first,

Remove the running boards, put on 33's (285 75R15), and put the spare in the back, with rock rails.

That should get me through??

The H3 has a rear locker yeah?

Yes, the 'Adventure Package" comes with a rear e-locker, 285 75R16's and 4:56's.

Slight advantage out of the box from the 80, HOWEVER, it is IFS.

You do know that some 80's had Front and Rear e-lockers right?

Yes, you can get the OEM lockers for front and rear. Retrofitting has been documented several times. There are other non-OEM options to equip locking diffs to non-locked 80s.

All US 80s came with a locking center differential. The "diff lock" option included electric locks for the rear and the front. The "rear only" was not an option in the 80-series. Therefore, a "locked" FZJ80 has 3 lockers and ~7% of the US production were equipped this way.

That, in fact, is a stock H3 going up Escalator. Did 'ya make it without winching?

That's not stock...those are 35's...

Those rear leafs flex pretty good for a spring under...

Stock except for the lift and 35's :D

"Adventure Package" eh? I call mine the "Afghan Package". The Taliban ran around in locked 80s & a couple 100s until the smart bombs started falling.

*All had great sounding/well used stereo systems as well. Another example of do as I say, not as I do fundamentalism.

What about a trip to Hollister???

That's where I cut my H3's teeth....

I would love to hit that up. Let me know when.

We also like to go up and slop around in New Idria, have you been up there? The Clear Creek area?

You can take a look at my rig here, see how you likey.

Hanna Sliders
4x4 Labs rear
Arb Front
OME 850 J's in the front
OME 4" comps in the rear
305/16's

I have a lot of weight in the back so you would probably be fine with 864's in the rear.

Love it.

Oh yea, mine has the front and rear factory lockers, so you could see how that works.

Probably deer or pig. There are some rather large cattle ranches out there where people hunt a lot.

Clear Creek is awsome, lots of hills, mud and basically a free-for-all as it is BLM land.
