HI :-) I'm Bebe...another newb (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I have been reading this forum for about 6 months now.

I own an '95 FZJ80, Black, grey leather, chrome pkg, roof rails 3rd row seats, blah blah blah. (no locker) Total mall crawler....until now.


In 2005, I purchased a new HUMMER H3, and have been introduced to wheeling. I have totally wheeled the crap out of it in the year that I have owned it, and have loved every minute of it.

Now I want to build up the 80 and start wheeling it too!

My project list for the winter is:

33's Bridgestone Duelers
2.5 in Old man Emu lift (heavy)
Slee Rock Rails
Front and rear Slee bumpers
Roof Rack w/spare

Next question is:

Are there any local wheelers, that would be willing to take me out the first few trips and learn me how to wheel in this truck? I have seen some totally built up 80's in the Rocklin/Roseville area.

I saw a kick a$$ 80 last night that had a 4x4labs sticker on the side window, lifted, snorkle, etc.

I can't wait to try it out. This is a great forum, lots of good info.

What is Roof Rack w/spare? Spare tyre on the roof rack or a 2nd roof rack as a spare?

If spare on the rack... Why would you want to put the spare tyre on the roof rack if you have a Slee rear bumper? Are you considering getting one without the spare tyre carrier? If yes, you should reconsider.

The spare on top is OK but it is heavy especially if you go to a 35" tyre and steel wheels. The weight on top raises the COG and you can forget your wife changing a flat if she needs to. Most guys get the rear tyre carrier and save the rack space for lighter items when doing expedition outings.

I can understand needing to save money and getting a bumper w/o the tyre carrier. If that's the case then stay with 33s and leave the spare under the truck or throw it in the cargo area when needed.

I'll talk to the "Hubcap" again about the tire carrier. He wants me to be a little more frugal on this project. I'll start that way...we'll see how it ends up eh??

Go with Slee's rear bumper with the tire carrier. You won't be sorry. You then have better access to the tire and have a place to mount your hilift jack.

love to see that you are a female owner instered to wheel your 80...isn't cool?

your set-up plan is almost the same as mine...the next step for me is the lockers...I'm done will all other initial step stuff...(armor, suspension, CB, GPS and tires)

Please consider a rear bumper that in addition to the spare tire, you can also carry jerry cans (water/gas) like the hanna one...check DDude or James rigs at any 2006 SNT forum...or any other 2006 trips that they participated...

Other rear tire carrier options are Hanna and 4X4 labs. Both located in Cali if that is easier for you.
