i am considering using herculiner on the interior of the LC my questions is what makes herculiner better than the others. and also is the process as easy as it sounds. i dont whether to use the roller or the spray what are your preferences
i used herculiner and think it would work great for stopping water and makeing cleanup easy. any sort of cargo would chip or tear it. look into raptor liner by u-pol.
I have a cj8 heap that I used herculiner on the underneath and inside. It has been on there for 2 years, the vehicle lives at the beach and I think it turned out great. The first layer I put on I put on thick on purpose in some spots. When put on thick like that the rubber chunks sink to the bottom and the top becomes glossy. The key to making it look great is to stir the can a LOT during every coat, and make sure you last coat is a nice thin one to get an even texture. I guess what sold me on it was its local availability, while I got most of it off ebay, it was nice to know I could run to autozone and get a quart if needed. I am getting ready to do an fj40, and I will use herculiner or durabak, The only reason I would use durabak is its availability in lots of colors and able to get the same color in textured and non textured. I think i would like to do the floors and areas you step in textured and the underneath and inside sides in a non textured possibly. I would think same quality just more options.
I used it on my flares, rocker panels and lower half of the doors on my 91 80. It turned out real nice, had I taken the time to mask it off a little better, it would have turned out better. But, I was doing it for sheer functionality and ptotection, so looking perfect wasn't my #1 concern. As Lil'John said, prep work is the key.
I used a roller and three coated everything, under tub and inside cab. Just gettin' it on the road, but everything came out VERY nice. As stated earlier, prep is the key. Also, I followed instructions explicitly and put on subsequent coats within 24 hrs. Xylene is your friend, I went thru 3.5 gallons of Herculiner and 1 gallon of xylene.
