OK guys... I know this is not a real Fawking Tech board, but I have a problem that I need help with. (and no it doesn't burn when I pee!!!) :flipoff2:

I am in the middle of my SAS on my truck and one of the main things I am upgrading is the 3rd member.. I have not been able to get the Spider gear retainer pin out.

Other than a Big Fawking Hammer and 3/16" punch or a press, how the F#$% do I get this thing out?

I have now broke one punch and bent 2 others with the BFH trick. And I don't own a press... Any other tricks to try?

I put a locker in the rear of my truck as it sits currently and that 3rd member was a peice of cake to get the retainer pin out of. But this one hates me!!! Gettin a little tired of hitting my knuckles with the BFH also!!

You are trying to punch through to the correct side, right? Also, you might need to drill out the hole where the pin hole gets staked.

Well, if'n you drive em out away from the carrier that holds the spiders, yes I am trying to punch the right way. I just might try drilling the other side a driving it out the other side.

Thank God I don't have to do this on both 3rds as I am spoolin' the rear.

Thanks.

Well, maybe it's me, but that don't make any sence.

That there hole at the end of my fanger, is the hole that the retaining pin must come out of. That hole it staked (crimped) to keep the pin from coming out. It won't come out any other way.

This is borderline too much tech. You'll have to sabotage this thread when you done with it. Otherwise. Kowboy's head might explode.

it's not staked er krimped....tis threaded...and some moronic dumbass previous owner busted off the bolt head that you would normally turn to remove it....

git out yer drill...small pilot hole and an eazy out...

I understand what your sayin, but the one in the picture is staked. I've seen Cruiser carriers with the bolt (because of the C-clips). I ain't never seen a 4cyl carrier that had a bolt like that, but that ain't to say they don't exist.

John, take a picture of the diff.

John, take a picture of the diff.

My carrier looks identical to the one that you posted. Exactly!!

I got it to come out finally. Wed night, jsut didn't get a chance to let everyone know on the board today at work. Just figured I would try it the other way as this end looked like it would not let it come out. Beat it with the BFH and it popped right out. The only problem is that the crimped over part of the carrier broke out when i knocked it out the other side. Not too much, just a peice about 1/8 inch think right at the crimp. The ? now is how do I keep the pin from coming back out.. Should I put some JB weld on it to keep it in place or jsut leave it alone? I was thinking JB weld would do, but if I need to knock it out again could I?

Thank goodness no bolt twisted off.. I got the locker installed in the carrier for the front and the Spool in the rear diff. Now just need to finish up the rest of the SAS on my truck so I am not making all that racket behind yall next time.

Again, I know this ain't no tech board normally, and this is getting way to techy for you guys.. I promise I will f... this tread up soon with some picks of my progress on the SAS, my chevy spring swap, and the tail bob. Here are a few pics of what I have so far.

The IFS Eliminator Kit w/ 5" HD springs, Hyrdo assist steering, and shocks all the way around...

BTW, do you have/are you gettin rid of the calipers off of the IFS crap? Might have a buyer....

I actually will be using the IFS calipers on the SAS, but I appreciate it.

I have a buyer down in Houston buying all the current IFS lift and spare parts from me for his daily driver as soon as I can get it all out.

Also, I noticed you guys are hitting Katemcy in March... I hope I can have this thing done by then. Other than the obvious upgrade reason for doing this... I really want to be able to do more with out the IFSucks under the front. Heck if'n I can get the SAS done by spring break, I will have 2 events under my belt with you guys... I'm damn well on my way to being White Trash, huh? I always knew I was a country boy.. but dint' know I was turnin into White Trash... But dang proud of it if I do...

P.S. I'll make sure to bring that girlfriend of mine with me too..:D

Good deal.

I think we're gonna bring my brother's truck down to Roundup. The trouble is that we're only half way done building the damn thing.

Bring it on Brother.

Great pics ... keep 'em comin'.

:flamingo:

I will. I am planning to do a little more work on it tonight and try to post some more photos tomrrow.

I asked over on the TTR board the ?? of the RoundUp fees, and hadnt got an answer, so I will post it here...

Is the registration fee for the vehicle? or for each occupant. I am interested in using this as my families event for spring break. I have a wife and 2 kids (6 and 9).

Tried to read thru the info a little at work but didnt see a difinitive answer on the LSLC site. Anybody who has experience on this, please let me know. I really want to go.

OK back on demand... here are more pics... One quicky though... I fawked up when I installed the back side of the knuckles.. I installed on the nub the felt first, then the steel ring, then the rubber (rubber being the closest thing to the actual knuckle) Will it hurt to run the knuckle like that or should I take the 45 min to take it all back apart and reverse the metal ring and the rubber???

Ok here they are....

Remeber the pesky retainer pin.. it came out of here... see the broken out part?
HPIM0247.jpg

Assembled roters and locking hub assemblies.... Damn aint them perdy?? All painted up like new....
HPIM0245.jpg

The back side of the knuckle where I reveresed the rubber and steel.. hehe Oh and also added those beefy 3/16" Rock rings on the back side vs. the stock Toyota 1/16" plates.
HPIM0244.jpg

and last but not least.. the axle with the knuckles half assed installed... Just need to do alot more..

I hope to have the IFS cut out tomorrow. I will post up more then.

Why don't you ask the club that is putting it on?

Maybe use the thread they put up about the event?

Fix it right.

Fixed... Actually only took me about 15 min to swap them back around. Just undid the 8 bolts on the back of each one and slipped the rubber thru the metal ring, bolted back up. no Problem. I really don't know why I asked the Question, I don't know how to half ass something. Or at least not knowingly.

Anyway.. Here are some more pics of my progress today..

In the shop...
