Hi guys 1st time posting here but not first time reading.
Found some old awesome posts about the stihl 041 av servicing... Just one thing I couldn't find...
How to remove the plate that covers the tensioner screw... Mines bent and pushing on the bar too much. I've tried double nutting them but it doesn't seem to shift. I'm a little worried about forcing them on such an old saw (1 as I don't yet have spare parts... 2 for risk of snapping the bolts in situ)

The plate I'm on about is in the picture I've pinched from another thread here.

Hi Steve,

Happy 4th of July! :)

Have you tried soaking this fastener with a good penetrating oil, such as Aero Kroil or PB Blaster ?

Aero Kroil is expensive, but works very well; a little bit goes a long way!

It is well work the $$ (or pounds Sterling.)

Regards,

Alan

Hi Alan, as yet I've only tried wd40 and 3in1 oil... Neither of which seemed to want to get it to budge, I'm really tempted to replace the pins and weld a bar on to the old ones to get as much leverage as possible!!

Are you trying to remove the bar studs or the plate? The plates on every Stihl I've ever run (I'm an arborist, so I've run a few) have a screw in between the bar studs and snap into place. If you've removed the screw you should just be able to pry up the plate with a scrunch.
