Help with purchase (no door tag)

Hello all,

Was about to take the plunge on a 1991 FJ80 but have concerns.

1st. The vin is shorter than regular 12/13 vin ie FJ800012XX. Is that right? All information I can find is saying past 1981 Toyotas should be longer. The chasis has the Vin stamped into it but is missing the Engine tag

2nd there is no door tag so how am I suppose to know all the options/color it came with? Is there another place I can find that info?

Should I be worried all the tags are missing?

I'm guessing others here will have far more knowledge about this, but yes, I'd be concerned. Perhaps you can take the VIN to your DMV and explain the situation, failing that, I know my insurance agent could provide some information. They would need the VIN anyway, you're just being proactive.

Possible that the truck is a theft recovery with a re-issued VIN?

My apologies… the guy did not understand what I meant by tag.

Here is the door tag, however the chasis and title has the shorten VIN# where as the door tag has the full vin#. See attached

Thoughts?
