Finally getting around to installing my Jowett oil filter housing and the horror of horrors of missing bolts, bolts in wrong holes all over the skid plates from the free oil changes at the dealership….

Have identified and replaced all missing bolts except this one. Any help identifying is appreciated.

Might as well get a couple extras, though when tightened correctly they do tend to stay put.

Thank you very much. Could not seem to find it.

Any time.

Lots of the commonly available diagrams are incomplete but this was under the body>fender/fender liner group. And not totally clear either. I’ve just looked these up three or four times over the years and now have them in my maintenance spreadsheet given how often this comes up.

These guys at the dealership put just the corners of the skid plate bolts back in, wrong ones at that, and tossed the rest. This is just what I can see… imagine what you don’t see that goes on with your vehicle.

All part of why I won’t let them touch mine.

I did have to pay for a dealer oil change on a roadtrip once and was shocked to see all the bolts in the correct spots when I got under there and looked. Figured I used all my 9 lives in one shot though.. I won’t be doing it again unless I’m in that specific spot in Idaho.

Got my morning chuckle in on that one.

Agreed, you used the lives all up. I had 4 years of ‘free’ service from Hendrick Toyota but, I think I’ll let them keep the remaining services.

Along with all of this, I had about a 6 inch scratch down the rear passenger door that looked to be from a pocket knife in the guy’s pocket when they gave it back.

When I pointed it out to the service advisor she told me that they would ‘talk to the guys about it’ and and then slow blinking eyes.

Required me wet sanding to get it mostly out. That’s a crack team of pros they have.

Nothing is “free”… and that was proven by your labor to fix the paint.

I quit putting up with BS like this at my dealer and their quick lube oil changes. By that I mean I called them on it. Both times for something really simple, failing to fill the tires with air. The first time I asked them to check the air in the spare as my wife was going on road trip in my truck. Later at home I was showing her how to drop the spare and noticed it was flat. I called and complained and filled the tire myself.

The second time on different vehicle it was fall and cold temps so the warning light was on for a couple of tires. I got the vehicle back and noticed the light was still on, I figured it go off in few minutes as it need time to reset. Nope. Got home checked all the tires - none had been filled. Called the dealer, got a song and dance about compressor issues but when looking at the video recording he admitted the tires were not filled. At that point I flat out asked for my money back as I was tired of paying for service I did not get. I got $100 credit. I'll probably use it in the main service center as they seem to take more care.

So for the OP, I would go back and have a chat wit the service manager to the point of being pedantic and have them order and pay for all the missing bolts.

Most people here fall into the enthusiast’s category and I would classify the Land Cruiser as an enthusiast’s car.

I have had enthusiast’s cars before and have had awesome service experiences with meeting the techs before and him asking if I had any special requests, him showing how he wrapped his sockets so not to damage wheels etc and they were car guys that took pride in their work. Just awesome.

Toyota builds a special vehicle, but servicing it in a way that most of us would like at a dealership will likely not happen as far as I can tell.

Now, if I could just back up and take my own advice…
