Spring Retainer

X2, Poser!! That spring retainer is pretty unique, and no problem at all once you see how it works. The bend in the end is a big help, but even without the bend.........not a big deal.

Just got my new set of Warn hubs (warranty replacement) in the mail today.

Good ideas on the spring retainer thing. My problem is that on one side, the axle is a tad long so the hub sticks out a small bit which makes the spring retainer very hard to push in. I actually had to cut a small section off so i could force it into the housing. It seems to be okay other than that. ty

Well then something was not spaced and welded properly when the axle spindle-mounting flange was made, because all 40/55 axle shafts/spline lengths are the same length for this kit.

I installed three of these Warn full-float kits into customer vehicles and not one has had an issue.

Hmm... Interesting idea. I'll have to check the difference between left and right side axle stick out next time I pull it apart. If that's the case, then a thin shim on that flange or the use of the thicker plate (for Part #24, above on diagram) should solve the problem. I guess i could also pull the axle out and grind a small bit off the inner side. Great info. thanks, ty

hopefully your's is ok...one of my axles was actually too long by about 3/4". warn was great though, picked mine up, cut and resplined it and next day aired back to me. of course that was nine years ago.

good info, just following the thread because my Warn FF has started leaking at the hub. Not sure where yet but the hub is full of diff oil. Been install seven years but low mileage and light use. Never a problem. Mine has a ton of take up after the clutch, feels really weird. I had a spool at first and no slop. I have a detroit locker now and that's when the slop came.I just live with it. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2174452

It's a PITA but you may want to check your inner seal. I have heard anytime you have diff oil coming out the hubs, it's probably the seal. It's Part# 33 in the diagram above. HTH, ty

WOOT!
I have a leaky radial hub seal, I need to find one locally(preferably) so I can get this on the road, Once I figure out the starting issues...

BTW, I have had my FF kit since about '99 and the only issue I ever had was a leaky hub, Which I simply ran 2 seals in the hub.
Ige, Thanks for the diagram
