In an effort to assist in our transition out of the Army and back to college in the next 3 years I have managed to talk my wife into moving into a Yurt full time. We found a nice place on an organic farm and are leasing some land for the remainder of our career here in Savannah GA.

We were about to purchase a new yurt out of VA but came across a GREAT deal out in Colorado. After a a few videos and a few conversations we finally put a deposit down and plan to pick them up in late April if things go well at work. My wife is due May 15th so if I don't make it before then I will have to head out there in June.

My father is going to fly in from Oregon and I am going to fly in from Savannah and we are going to pick up a Penske 26' truck and roll into Arboles, CO where the yurts are. We will ship most of our tools needed in the mail to the location. I figure it will take us around 4 days to completely deconstruct the yurts. And this is why.

We purchased a set of 3 and a stick built bathroom. It consists of 1 30' Yurt with a full custom kitchen, all appliances, wood stove, lighting, and all electrical components. It also includes 2 smaller 24' yurts that should be very easy to tear down as they were just used as bedrooms. The bathhouse is stick built so we have yet to figure out how to tear that down as it has 2 full sinks, a laundry room, toilet, and full shower. It was also dry walled. Lastly there is a 20' metal car shed that was used as an enclosed hallway to travel between all of the rooms and not have to step out into the snow.

I'm not sure how close this is to where most of you live but I figured it would be worth a shot and we can supply beer and food for anyone that wants to assist. I will try to post pictures soon. I only have a few sporadic small videos and one big one that came via text that I have yet to figure out how to post anywhere.

Thank you for any assistance in both labor or info for the area that you can provide.

I'm going to Google it, but what is a Yurt???

Have you posted this in the club forums for Book Cliff Cruisers and Rising Sun Cruisers? They are about the same distance from SW Colorado as we are as well.

I have posted in those other forums that were near by. Rising sun has their own forum and I did not want to create a new username just to SPAM their threads with my request for help.

We have a few members of my old club that now live in Colorado so that is why I posted there and they suggested I post on this forum as well.

The link is to the company that builds the Yurts I will be tearing down. The second picture down is an actual picture of the kicthen I will be taking down and with me.

I figured some would want to take advantage the end of the week and come up and work a day, have a good party at night with some beer and food and the hit some trails on their way back home. We still do not have a date but I was thinking of flying out around the 10th of April. This would allow me to pick up the Penske, drive up, do an assessment, make a plan and then get to work that Friday morning. If all went well I could be on the road by Monday back to Savannah. I figure it will take about 4 days total to tear everything down and pack it up if it is just my dad and myself and one other helper for the big moves like taking down the domes. I've also considered hireing a local contractor for a day or two to assist with the bigger tools/scaffolding and an extra hand.

Additional information:
CC to Bookcliff Cruisers.
I picked up a thread seeking help from a fellow mudder to help
dis-assemble 3 Yurts for relocation to Savannah, Georgia.
The initial thread is from the Derailed Cruisers, Durango chapter.
I'm helping Jason to assemble a crew to help out. There are a few conditions that might limit our participation. The tear down might happen mid-week of April 7th. I have a three day weekend planned for April 11th -13th. Schedules are still in the planning stages but with enough notice and early enough maybe we can get a few extra hands to help out.

Part of Jason's message to me is below.

Camping and location are easy to get to. Google maps can show all yall exactly where the job site is. It's kinda between Ignacio and Navajo Lake, Arboles is the town.
Thanks in advance

Thank you for the feedback again. I was looking at my timeline and I was able to push the timeline to the right by a day and maybe two. But that still puts a tear down starting early Wednesday or Thursday. I will find out tomorrow for sure. I have some requirements back here in GA that I need to be back for so I'm not sure if I will be able to push it all the way to the weekend or not. I'm assuming that this would be a deal breaker for most if not everyone.

We would be able to stay on the property I'm sure. I just did a google recon of it and there appears to be a lot of vacant land on the property and next to some oil rigs. I will ask the owner tomorrow though. But if someone was to show up the night before tear down there would be no issue at all for staying in the yurt. I think we are staying in a hotel about 5 minutes down the road. It is nothing fancy but it has beds and a shower which is more than enough for us.

If you are bored and want to look the yurts are on Lopez road and hwy 151 in Arboles CO. I had no idea of her address and I was able to find them just by scanning the city on google.

Let me know if anyone else is/ would be interested in coming if it was not a weekend. I will likely buy the tickets in the next couple of days. I would love to meet up and see some of the cruiser crowd from the South West but as usual in the Army I never seem to have the flexibility in my schedule I would like. I will be leaving a brand new 1SG in charge of my company and I already feel bad enough as it is. I will likely be coming into work on my leave just to keep things moving.

James,

Thank you for pushing this out. I will get the dates nailed down today once I have my leave approved. Looks like I will be leaving on the 8th for a start tear down on the 9th of April.

I talked to the owner and she has zero issues with a group camping on the property. The yurts have concrete floors but if anyone made it early on the 8th before the tear down we could sleep in those as well.

I'm looking at hiring a contractor for two days to help me out with getting scaffolding. The rest of the tolls I think I will be able to ship out before hand or bring with me.

Thank you all again and I know meeting in the middle of a week is near impossible, especially after most in your part of the country have spring break the week before.

Jason

We have solid plans now. I will be flying into Sante Fe on the 8th of April and then picking up the Penske and driving up to Arboles that night. Will start the tear down on the 9th and it will likely last thru the 11th and maybe the 12th. If any of you are in the area and want to stop on by I"m sure we can round up some beer for a BBQ and a night of fun. Looks like you all have a lot of opportunity for trails out in that part of the country.
