Hello from upstate NY! Great forum and I have read many 100 series threads. I drive a 4Runner currently and am looking seriously at some 2007 LC's as a possible daily driver replacement. Got to use some overseas and still impressed with the durability and ride on non-existent roads.
I was hoping to hear from some of you what you think of the LC (and AHC) in the Northeast, especially with road salt exposure. I can handle the brakes/tires/consumables cost and at about 12000 miles/yr willing to deal with the fuel for the fantastic ride. Not planning any mods. Did some searches, but most posts seem to be from warmer states and no winter/salt.
My questions really are can I expect reliable service from the integrated nav/radio/HVAC controller screen and computer? If I watch the AHC for problems and spring wear, can I get 150K out of it? Any other daily driver thoughts?
Thanks! Russ

Pendleton, NY (just north of Amherst). Trying to rationalize going to look at the LC at Hoselton. Wife says no to the 06 LC at West Herr in Buffalo since it has more miles than my 07 4Runner. She is OK with the less miles same year LC, but I wonder how it holds up to our winter road conditions. I liked the ride and drive of the AHC. Do you drive your 02 regularly?

Just my 2 cents but if you can find one from the south or west you could shave 5 years off the rust clock.

As for the durability of the systems in the NE I'll let someone else chime in.

I have 205k miles on my 99 LX. Original AHC system, works like a dream - smooth as silk. I would trust my machine to drive across the country tomorrow. This is NO joke. Servicing is key. I have a team of people I trust to work on my rig, and I don't go beyond them nor this website (very informative). If you can verify history on the vehicle then I wouldn't second guess it. Just my .02 Cheers :)

Iv got a 2000 lx with 270k on her, never had a problem with it what so ever. I also wouldn't hesitate to take her across the country tomorrow..my ahc is faultless. Like said previously, maintenance is key! SUPER reliable rig

Thanks for the replies. Glad to hear that AHC can be reliable if maintained. Getting very tempted to try to make a deal for one. Not the most practical daily ride, but so tempting....

I owned 2 in the rust belt, KC. All you have to do is every spring rustoeum any rust areas under your rig. Mine had no problems with rust when I did this, only took about 1 hour a year. They now use salt on roids on the roads in the winter. It will eat anything that is not maintained.

.. Not planning any mods.
That's what everybody says at first... don't pan the 100 as overkill for a daily driver. It absolutely rocks. Quiet, powerful enough, AWD for poor weather, high visibility, highly reliable, quiet, safe, quiet, comfortable, reliable, quiet, well...you get the idea. Just turned 200k miles on my wife's. She will never give it up. She gets mad when I take it on Scout outings and she is "forced" to drive my Avalon. We've taken it on two cross country trips in the last two years. One about 8500 miles, one about 6000. Only issue was a failed coil pack in the Outer Banks, easily fixed. The ONLY downside is un-Prius like MPG

Well, I think I can answer that for you. I live in Vermont, so in the peak of winter the roads are salted nearly every day. My 01 LC (130k) has held up just fine. the body has no rust and the underside has only surface rust. If your really worried you can always Waxoyl the underside of your car and then it will seriously last forever. Good luck

Love mine - 100 miles a day round trip

I know your wife wants low mileage.

You really, really pay for that when you're talking LCs. If it were me, I'd save 20 grand and go for this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005...3?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2c6d063745#v4-43

It's about 3 miles from my place.

one owner, 90k service done, the owner runs Gates Automotive in Henrietta, had this detailed weekly and looked after by his shop. Apparently only selling because he landed a large account with local benz dealer, so he got a new benz.

Total steal, in my opinion, right in the sweet spot for value for 100s.

I had to twist my wife's arm to get mine too, and come to think of it, she still thinks it's a pig. Atleast I didn't spend new-car $ on it.

I have to admit I don't think the Landcruiser is a daily driver unless you can afford the gas. If you can you will never want to drive anything else, the safety, security, reliabiltiy, capability... I live in Wisconsin where rust is all over the place and I am just starting to see very, very minor rust appear. Mine is a 99'. I would think if you find a clean 07 you'll be set for years before rust appears. Just wash it thoroughly in the winter and don't let salt stay on it when the temps get warm. Salt does way more damage when the temps warm up.

Good luck with your purchase.

I think I am willing to sacrifice my 18-20mpg for 15-16mpg on the daily commute for the seating postion and enjoyment of the LC. I do like the AHC ride and solid feel but I may look at higher mileage ones as a third car trial before giving up a trouble-free 4runner.

Thanks Cardy - I will check out the listing. Russ

If MPG is a consideration, shop elsewhere... if having a vehicle made to run in 3rd world countries on s#%t gas gives you goosebumps, do it!
