Issue = '95 LC, left rear wheel, loose shoe hold-down spring (left one with bent pin).

I can't push it back in for the life of me. The one to the right of it is fine (straight pin). Is there a trick in tightening this spring & cup? Do these springs go bad? Here's a pic of my issue.

Yes, there's a trick young Padawan...with your left hand, reach around the back and push that pin toward you while with your right hand do what you've been trying to do for the last half hour. Inhale, exhale, uncork the beer ......

I got the "push the pin toward you" part from seeing the right side pin. My question is, do I turn the cup clockwise while pushing the spring or what?? Thank you.

I use a snub nose pliers to push the cup away from you, if you have one. Those pliers have deep grooves that help with this process. Turn the cup so that the slot lines up with the head of the pin and then push it away from you using the pliers. Meanwhile, with your left hand, push the pin toward you from the back.

I hope this made sense!

Ali - Thank you for helping me out. So, when the slot of the cup is lined up with the head of the pin, I just "squeeze" the pliers and push the back of the pin? Am I getting this right?

Yup, when the slot and the head are lined up and oriented properly, use the TIP of your snub nose pliers to grab the cup, and then push in and twist the pliers. If you notice, there is a depression in the cup where the head of the pin will rest, similar to the right side. Be sure to push the pin toward you while you're doing this. Otherwise, the pin will move away from you, as you found out :bang:

Thanks, Ali. I'll report back when I tackle this tomorrow morning. BTW, have you ever heard of the these springs go bad? I'm starting to question the condition of the spring.

I wasn't aware that 95's even were built with drums, learn something new here every day

I really haven't heard the springs going bad but anything is possible I suppose. What makes you think that?

These are not drums, they are discs with drums for parking brakes, all rolled into one. Very common on vehicles with rear discs and need to have parking brake feature. My other cars have the same feature.

Makes more sense now!

Freaking thing frustrated the **** out of me. Called and ordered new cup, spring, and pin with CDan. Will report back with happiness, hopefully.

I can't thank CDan enough. Found the culprit. Check out the length of the freaking pin!!! Have no idea how I made it like that. No wonder i can't have the spring fit snuggly. Lesson learned. Ali = thanks for you help as well.

Old spring, cup, and pin on the left:
