Bolt busted in deep, not an issue for a good welder. If you google, you'll see guys building up welds, even on bolts busted in very deep.

Good luck on the drilling. It's how I've done it more times than I can remember. It's worked for me, 100% of time on rust in bolts.
Understood. Amazing what you can do with the right tools.

I'm prepped with my right hand drill, lots of bits , cutting oil, map gas, and this beefy HF extractor set...a few LH bits as well just to see if I get lucky

So at what point do I involve heat in the mix ? After drilling but before attempting extractor?

Should be a fun day , so much for a relaxing day off of work

Before firing up that torch just make sure no wires or fuel lines are close by. Too often we are wanting to jump in and knock it out and we did not look just beyond the stuck bolt.

Do before drilling and again before extraction. Can only help break the bond. Good luck!

Welp I destroyed it even more and think I'm going to tap out.

Was off to a decent start and then broke a skinny bit inside the stuck bolt. This cause the hole to be off center and idk , long story short the hole is too big now . Tried to switch over to a 3/8 tap and it didn't really bite into anything .

Think I'm gunna have to weld the OEM back on or see if someone in the area can install a riv nut but I'm not sure if that will work

OH NO! Mike I'm sorry this happened.

Lol yeah it sucks. Was thinking about trying to tackle the other side next but I think I would have a similar outcome ...

Thinking the best bet at this point would be to find someone who can weld the OEM bumps back in place , any reason why not to do this ?

Otherwise need to find someone capable of drilling hole out, painting and inserting riv nut .

Will report back when I figure out a solution

Found some guy who like an hour south of here who claims he can get this problem solved. ..... He told me to avoid welding on a frame as it can create weak spots in some sceanrios, I didn't know that.

Anyway he claims he's taken hundreds of broken bolts in his days and is willing to tackle this project . That's a small miracle around here , most people don't want to be bothered with this stuff

Here's to screwing up another repair, making it even worse when trying to fix it ,and eventually just paying someone to fix it all lol . Great shame

How did this pan out? Hope it’s all fixed.

I threw in the towel and paid an indy mechanic to get it done. It was just too much to manage and after failing at the first extraction I gave up.... He managed to extract 3 of the 4 that I only broke the heads off of. The one that I totally butchered he drilled out, tack welded ( I think ? ) some sort of insert in place, painted, and then re installed.

OEM bump stops back in place. Some time and money I'll never get back for no change in the bump stops lol but at least I can say I tried , sorta.

Well, at least you know how to go after nuts and bolts on your truck. That little “blue wrench” you purchased will serve you well. Glad you are up and running.
