I found out that the threads on the engine oil pan on my 2004 are stripped out. What is the best way to get the oil pan off? Dealership says its a 13 hour job. Is this correct? Any help would be great.

Don't know if it really takes the shop 13 hours - but factory manual says to pull the engine to remove the oil pans. However, that is if you are removing both upper and lower section. If you're doing just the lower pan due to a stripped oil drain bolt, you could do it if you just removed the front diff support bar. Put it up on stands and use the floor jack to support the diff when you pull the bar. Won't be a ton of room to work with when putting it back together so be careful to not mess up the FIPG. One of the hardest parts is getting all the old gasket material off both surfaces prior to reinstalling. When putting back together oil wants to keep dripping down the sides so have a friend there to wipe away the oil a few inches up on the lower pan to give some time for the FIPG to set up. Good luck!

Regarding the stripped threads, you can try this: http://www.amazon.com/Loctite-Form-A-Thread-repair-kit-grey/dp/B000WSEUII?tag=ihco-20
I have not personally used it before but it has pretty favorable review in Amazon.
But here are some options:
  • You can drill the hole deeper and re-tap the hole to the new depth and use longer screws
  • Drill out the hole to the next largest thread size and tap it to that with new screws.
  • Use a Heli-Coil kit. Here's a YouTube of how to use it:

Hope this helps.
