I picked up a replacement cast aluminum main oil pan at a salvage yard and need to clean it up. Already used CitriStrip orange type paint stripper and it worked pretty good; better than brake cleaner or engine degreaser. There is still some crust left in the hard to reach places and the outside of the pan is dull like how they all get from age/oxidation. From talking with the company that makes the Citristrip they warned do not get any on anything rubber or plastic.
Edit: found an engine machine shop that will bead blast then wash and rinse the pan for only $40; they said to remove the baffles and pick-up tube/screen before blasting.
See photos below of the pans after the first cleaning using the Citristrip on the inside only.
