Hey All,

I'm currently in Anchorage and have a freshly rebuilt 1HD-FT from Torfab last fall, with their air intake and a Gturbo green wheel. I went to change the air filter today and it was soaked in engine oil. There is also excess oil in the engine oil dipstick tube.

I've sent a message and these photos to Torfab - I'd like opinions on if this is a simple fix or something that is more serious.

whats that bung into the air box

My guess is oil from the valve cover breather.

Also how did you mount the air box on the battery side? I could not get my mine to fit

Yeah that's oil coming out of the valve cover breather. I don't think that's the correct location for it - on a stock airbox that hose goes after the filter before the turbo. Your setup seems to put the oil right into the filter.

Some pics and discussion here:

Some people run catch cans and some people vent it to atmosphere aka run the hose down to the frame rail

I think you're absolutely right on that. So, I could theoretically remove the hose going to the airbox and trace it to vent down towards the frame as a temporary solution, in your opinion?

Correct. That’s how I’ve been running mine for a couple years. Just double check oil level and see how much is venting as you go

yaa... dont really want that shiit in your intake tract anywhere anyways, itll just fill up your intercooler or gum up your manifold or valves

I agree with above comments. Oil in your filter is coming from your valve cover breather. On stock and other aftermarket (PDI) the breather is installed post air filter box/pre-turbo. After noticing excessive amount of oil in my intercooler ect. I installed a catch can. I'm still not particularly happy with the amount of oil I see. I plan to vent to frame rail next.
