For Sale: - 3 piece transmission crossmember

You ought to go buy a lottery ticket, today, because that's not a common part to stumble upon.....at least, not if I was looking.

I don't think that will work on a 40 series frame. the one for a 40 is aprox 1" to 1/1/2" narrower, the bolts go up into the brackets, not down like a 60 series, and the side brackets are shaped differently for clearances and the holes are in different places.

Hope the thread author didn't take my advice and dump a weeks wages into lotto tickets!!

I read no further than the first line...

I'll hunt another as reparations, or try to appeal to a buddy's good side, and see if he'll sell the one I sold him.

Ya I didn't know there was a difference between the two Ive seen photos of the other and thought they were the same

I'll try and post pics later today.

here are some pics
60 series are black/greasy
the 40 series are clean/rusty

did you find one?

I ended up having one made only coast me 75 and a little bit of time. But thanks everyone for all the help

To add to the confusion there is more then one type of L brackets used on the 4X series. Have a set from a 82 FJ40 and set from a 84 HJ47RV which are completely different from each other. A third set that like the 82 only shorter. The center section is the same on all three.:meh:

You can see why I worked to get as much as I could when I bought my transmissions. With the 82 H42 besides the transfer case, crossmember, drivelines and skid plate I ended up with the frame/rear axle as well. Now if I could figure a way to use that frame on my 79 the five speed conversion would almost be direct bolt in.

I can provide plenty of pictures of the 4X series crosmembers. OEM are the only crossmembers that were factory made to fit the 4X series. Others are modified from the 60 series, OEM or aftermarket. Custom made is also a option. I figure just using the measurements from the 82 frame with take all the guess work out of positioning the crossmember in the stock location.

Photos of the 4X series crossmember would be great. I have a possible lead. I want to be sure I purchase the correct part.

Thanks

Those work great. About to go out and check out all my L brackets. Forgot the 60 series have the weld nut. Didn't know about the small flange on the end the 40 series doesn't have. Having the end up the bolt on top protects it from damage off-road. But if they did come loose could continue to loosen and fall out. Longer bolts and a nylon lock nut on top of the fixed nut would prevent that but don't remember ever hearing of any falling out.

Still leaves me wondering what the shorter L brackets that look like the SWB 40 series are for? They are the same except shorter. No welded nut so not for the 60 series.:meh:
