So I was working for the Forest Service in Arizona for the summer and instead of driving straight back to Jersey I decided to take the scenic route home. I'm in Eureka in Humboldt County California and my 4d55 powered diesel Montero's oil pressure has begun to drop. It also began leaking oil pretty bad out of the oil pan where I had a small leak before. I'm hoping that that is the cause of my drop in oil pressure as it is quite a bad leak now. It also may be leaking from the rear main seal. I don't want to blow my motor up 3,000 miles from home. I've been keeping the oil topped off, but the pressure still just isn't where it used to be and the leak has gotten really bad.

I can easily do an oil pan and rear main seal myself, but on the road I have no where to do it. I'd be willing to pay a shop to do it if I can't find somewhere to do it myself, but I figured I'd ask...

I was hoping someone in the area here knows diesels or motors in general and could maybe call me and share some advice or maybe share a place to turn a couple wrenches for a day to get my leaks fixed. I'm willing to pay a rental fee or something for using your driveway/garage and jack/hoist. I'd be happy if you had a recommendation of a shop that would have the time to help me fix or diagnose the problems too, the two places I've been to in Eureka are busy and didn't have the time to really help me. I'm at a coffee shop now on a laptop, but phone is the best way to contact me if you are able to offer any help or recommendations or where to go for a hand or a good garage. 856-287-7412. Thanks for whatever you can offer me!

oh yea

So i am comfortable driving it, so I can travel a few hours to a place, but i just don't want to drive it too far the way it sits now....like back to Jersey....

contact Georg (orangefj45) here. Don't know how close you are to him, but if he can't help, he can probably steer you in the right direction

Georg is prolly an 8 hour drive from Eureka, which is in the extreme n.western corner of the state, just below Oregon. Eureka is pretty far from anywhere.

There has to be some good diesel shops in the area due to logging and marine industries, but I doubt they will let you do your own work.

Buy a pound of fresh local produce and when you get home you can pay for the entire trip!

Think you could make it to Sacramento? (It's all downhill...)

I really like the fresh produce idea.....If you make it back bring me a pound,I'm on long island, not far from you at all
