Help! I may have cracked block/head/?

Has you engine been up to temp for like a half hour since you flooded it with water, so it can dry out. I think that's an oil port, and it could seep a little water and not oil because oil is thicker. If you can remove the "plug" and see what comes out.
 
Yea well you just might have a crack in the cast iron water jacket somewhere into an internal oil line. I would strongly consider some type of head gasket repair treatment soon. You let that crack rust up it might not take the sealant as well.

I would also start shopping for a new engine/block/head.
 
Have you started the engine yet? Where is your oil pressure sensor tapped in at? After looking back at pictures of my block I believe that is where your block drain plug is. The oil galley is lower down on the block
I circled where the oil galley plug would be:

Edit: I hope I didn't cause you too much grief I should have look at these pics closer the first time! Still not sure why that plug would be missing on your engine
 
A lot of times the block drain hole is blocked with crud. There is a good discussion of clearing the blockage here.
I believe that the OEM drains are still available. The one on the left was our old one which was plugged up solid. If you are getting a little weep of coolant at that hole, that might indicate that someone removed the plug and the opening is mostly plugged up. You should be able to reem it out and install a new plug.

A PO tapped a mechanical oil gauge sender at the oil cooler. I had no reason to ever notice that spot. Today, I will go out and verify if the weeping hole is plugged or not. Obviously, everything comes down to whether or not that hole is for water or oil.
 
This was first posted in the 55 section where one can see the progress on my 55 restomod build. I'm looking for ideas as to how to go about assessing what I believe may be a freeze crack somewhere?

I'm pretty sure I cracked a head or a block or a ? Please help me gather an investigation sequence. Man, this is painful. If you've been following, you'll know I've not been on here for a while. After the deaths of two family members, we moved back to CO, (Springs) to be nearer to two daughters. Long story- not good- took two years of wife's and my lives. We're recovering.

I have come so far on the 55--new floor, brakes, axle, steering, bearings, AC prep-this thread is a part of it. This morning went to back it out of the garage where its been since we moved into the new house. Went to check fluids and found radiator low and started refill. Something's not right, radiator is not filling, floor is dry. I check oil to discover I'm filling the crankcase with water!

I had been driving it around Biloxi to gas stations, shakedowns, etc. on pure water. Before moving last October, I topped off rad with 50/50 mix, probably 1/2 gallon. Trailered the 55 behind U-Haul. You may remember the late October snowstorm and following cold. We we're in OK the worst night parked at motel-got damned cold. Lost all plants in back of truck. When we got keys to new place in the Springs, I backed the 55 off the trailer and parked it in the garage (unheated), where it sat untouched untill this morning.

We had two -15 nights in January but I don't know how cold the garage went to. I'm thinking it froze sometime then? Could something really have cracked internally? I'm in shock.

Short of a complete teardown, anyone know of any external investigations/ideas? Color me sick.

i ALWAYS use TOYOTA black 00295-00103 , and a 1/2 " and 3/4 Oatley home depot plumbing brush on a drill or by hand


and YES , hell yes , if a part is in the way like a rocker shaft assy , remove it , take photos , use a paper print medai FSM , do it by rthe book , get test book results the first time

ONLY use toyota oem freeze plugs

DORMAM and rock auto are cheese and thin china crap bottom line

having plumb . level and square driving force inward is KEY here


get a bushing driver set from harbor freight


makes the ill feel like Chill ......

The hole is blind tapped, about 1/2" deep, and I'm 75% sure it would connect to the water jacket. Reading some old messages seem to state the flat unmachined boss lower down was for the oil sender in some cases. I still need to prove that. Appreciate anyone jumping in to confirm and/or with a thread size and pitch. Thanks

If it is the hole you can see just forward and above the block drain, it is a blind hole on my 12/76 block........
The un-drilled, untapped boss you can see forward and slightly lower than the block drain is where the oil pressure sender was located on F motors.

Any updates?
I put in my freeze plugs this afternoon and it wasn't fun, hammering in a small space with RTV everywhere takes patience and time. Make sure you order quite a few extra plugs in the case some get nicked while trying to get them in. Also yes you do have to remove the rocker shaft, I tried for the heck of it and couldn't get anywhere.
