Help: how bad is this rust?

They use some kind of addictive chemical as an alternative to salt.

Ok, I just googled it.
What is UDOT putting on the roads?

In addition to plowing, UDOT employs other tactics to keep roadways clear and safe. Approximately 1.8 million gallons of salt brine are used each year to pre-treat for ice on state roads. During storms, UDOT uses 236,000 tons of salt including regular white salt and three types of high-performance salt. In addition, 24,000 tons of de-slicking grit and volcanic cinders are used throughout Utah, excluding Weber, Davis and Salt Lake counties. In some locations with higher ice concerns, UDOT uses spray systems on the road or bridge to apply potassium acetate to prevent ice.

So, yeah. Salt. BUT, for some reason I don't have rust problems. Maybe our salt is better.

My 92 has been in Iowa/Indiana for 19 of her 24 years. She is virtually rust free. A few bolts have had some surface corrosion. Otherwise she's clean. Looks like a SW truck. But I power wash her three times per week from underneath, laying on my back to keep her that way.

Ok that is it...after discussing your maintenance routine with you and now reading this....I have come to the conclusion that you are nuts! I say this because I am jealous of the time you have to pamper your vehicles this way!!

Certifiably insane. For sure. It isn't about having time but making time. My 92 is my baby. I bought it when I was 16. My father didn't want me to buy a "rice burner" because he is an ignorant ass. So, I will have it until the day I die just to prove a point. :)

Wisconsin DOT spent $26.6 million on salt statewide in 2007-8 for 644,485 tons of road salt.
They are now using less salt as Lake Michigan chloride levels are rising as is other waterways.
Its no wonder, the Hwy dept would use so much salt after every storm. They would even salt the
heck out of the shoulder just to remove the snow from the undriven part of road. Its no wonder I
have high blood pressure, I could taste the salt after a storm when driving my semi on the salted roads.
