On last coilover on suspension replacement and in an effort to get lower shock mount into position pulled back too hard on spindle…Heard a little pop and now propshaft is out an inche or so outboard. Unable to push spindle back to vertical to attach to UCA. Tried starting, put in neutral and rotating hub to get it back into place. No luck! Please help!!!
First pic driver side, second passenger…
Thx Rick

A bigger concern here is whether or not you dropped any bearings from the CV race. That happens quite easily. Do you have a 12pt, 39mm hub socket?

Correction talking front passenger CV shaft….

No biggest is a 36mm, but can go get one….Thx

If I can get CV shaft closer to horizontal, will it go back in assuming bearings are still intact, or is there a retainer of some sort that I’ve dislodged? This job host got bigger….👎

I would first try using a floor jack to get the CV in line with the hub, and giving it a few taps with a hammer. There isn't much that holds them in place.

If that doesn't work, removing the CV from the hub is a little more involved, but not complicated. That is where the 39mm hub socket will be needed.

Don't fret. There is a little c-clip that sits in a notch on differential side of the CV. If it is positioned top dead center, it will drop into the notch and offer little resistance. If the CV came out with a little motion on the hub, this is your likeliest positioning, and the CV *should* go right back in.

This is what it looks like.

This clip is inside the diffhousing or external assuming internal? So you suggestion is do what I said without taking the whole spindle off? Should I be attempting to push it back in with transmission in park or Neutral? All for wheels are off and up on a QuickJack….

Got ya. Park or Neutral?
Shouldn’t matter. If it slipped out in your current position, it should go right back in if you can get it lined up for some love taps (maybe even a couple of quick pushes on the upper spindle).

Did you get it sorted out?

We’ll got the 12 point and the CV shaft needs to be replaced anyway boots cracked and leaking. So got the Toyota diff side seal shaft in tomorrow…
Thanks for all the advice! More to Follow👍

So have this gap on passenger side, drivers un touched in second picture. When I put new CV shaft in slid in with a reassuring positive clunk, but won’t go past this point. Been hitting the solid outer cast price with iron stock and sledge (not too hard). Doesn’t seem like it moving now. What the issue or do I need to be more aggressive with the sledge…or take it out and try again? Video O’ve watched are anywhere between it going in fully by hand and hammering it in…..!

Unfortunately this is approx the same gap I saw when the original one popped out, so thinking it’s still not in all the way and the clip on diff side shaft is still not in place….would that make sense?

The splines have to be lined up or it would have gone in this far….

Did you line up the c-clip top dead center before sliding the CV into the diff?
