folks, the time has come to order the lockers for the old man. Front and rear.

I'd like to go with Detriot Lockers, and then change out the pinnion/ring gear to 5.29-1.

My problem is that some dealers are saying I need the same locker front and rear. Is this true?

Also, the books seem to indicate that my ring gear is 8.875, and the dealers are syaing that I use a 9.000, Is that a truth?

full float? not sure of that terminology...

ok, two pics, and some data, jacked up the rear end, and turned one tire, opposite tire sort of turns, but stops now and then, same for both sides. in reverse direction, the tire does not turn on the opposite side.

on the front, no matter which gearing it is in, neither tire turns the other at all. oh boy... i did not have the hubs locked in....

and yes, i do see that the pinnion and ring are a matched set...

ok, went out and ...

jacked it up yet again, the front end, put the gear box into H4, and locked hubs, and both wheels turn in opposite directions from each other both in forward and reverse rotation.

come on ... help me out of this fix...helps me out please.

help me out please. i need to know that the data which says my front is the same as my rear differentials....9.5 inch....is really truth? so that i spend my $$$$ in the most efficient manor. help me out please. both my diff's are third members, and the front cover has been welded on to the case.

it would be nice to know how to verify numbers, like the ratio being 4.11 on stock OEM diff's?

didn't anyone ever put togehter a spread sheet on this before???

more pics, of the front diff.:)

You have a SF rear. You have a FF front. The centres, or thirds are the same front to rear and are of the open type.. I think the guys asking questions about FF rears is because you cant get the cross pin in the spider gears with the 5.29 gears as the theeth are in the way.. With FF rear and front this isnt a problem, as there are no C clips to retain the axle shafts, the spider gear pin doesnt need to come out. Do you really need 5.29s? 8.875 or 9, doesnt matter, its the same thing, just a naming difference.. Id not put a detroit in the front without PS and birf upgrades.. Find a dealer that knows Cruisers.. In the past, I've posted up the method to calculate the diff ratios by spinning tyres and counting DS revolutions, use the search.
