About to take a plunge into the world of LC. I'm looking at a 2001 with about 55,000 on it.

Before I commit, any honest PROS and/or CONS to this year model over others? Thanks for quick replies as I go in the morning to look.

If it's a good deal and has been well cared for...BUY IT!

2001 is one of the most trouble free years. Sounds like real low miles. What are they asking for it?

Wow, not much to look for unless it was involed in a wreck and sat for a while - sounds like a keeper. Perhaps it was purchased in 2002 or something?

Try to find out where it was stored or if it was just a garage kept occasional driver.

I am sure they are asking at least $23-26?

That's the price range...

fair, but not a "steal". But it's local and I can see it in person and that's worth a lot to me vs buying online sight unseen.

I have a clean CarFax report. How reliable are these?

Also, do they make a sliding REAR SIDE window for these (like the 80 series)?

No sliding rear windows but they can be tilted open with the push of a button from the drivers seat. I like the sliding windows but they are also an easy point of entry for thieves.

Can one be custom made?

Does anyone think one can be custom made? My dog loves the wind in his face and a sliding rear window for the 3rd row would be perfect!

How about a custom sunroof for the third raw..kind of like a dog roof :D :D :D

On the subject of CARFAX being reliable - only to a point. I have proof that things can happen without being on that report - Lexus 400 in a MVA and it was not on there.

There can be the rare circumstance where the vehicle was involved in something but it was never reported. This is unlikely if there is only one owner. If there was a brief owner like a car auction or small non-trustworthy private dealer - then there is a chance something could have happened and not reported and the vehicle would then need to be looked at even closer. Unless your like me - check things very closely anyway.

2001 is one of the most trouble free and a lot of nice features - TRAC, 1 touch windows, compass in the rear view mirror, optional NAV, etc. For the dog, just drop one of the 2nd row seats forward, and then it can get a real window. Alternatively, turn on the back A/C fan (manually) so it blows air on the dog.

Sounds like a good value. It is barely broken in at 55K. The 2002 is essentially the same, but more had NAV. The 2003 was a significant update with 5 spd trans and redone dash.

Best accessories source and wheels?

Thanks all. Deal should be done Monday! Drives GREAT!

What's the best source for accessories, like seat covers and other interior and exterior add ons?

Also, wheels and rims look too small. What size and brand do you guys recommend without having to lift it or modify? I'd like a good on and off road tire.

Thanks again everyone!

Unless it was declared a lemon or totaled in an accident and issued a salvage title do not expect to find info about it on carfax. Things to look for are rapid movements between states (could indicate Title "washing") and obvious flood zone registrations. Most MVAs are not going to show, even wth substantial damage.

You still need to do very thorough inspections.

Sounds nice to me. 2001 is a sweet spot for used 100s.

Best seat covers IMO (other thread on this): GT Seat Covers; PM SINCITY100...he is a member and GT Seat cover dealer (and Toyota parts man too ;) ). No aftermarket alloy wheels available really...stay with OEM or Stockton Wheels for custom steelies. Search for tire threads...too many to count and tons of real and useful info on tires.

www.Sleeoffroad.com (bumpers, etc.)

Overall not a lot (especially compared to 40, 60, 80, FJ series) of aftermarket on-trail accessories available. Best advice: Get a cut-off/bandsaw, MM175+, hand grinder, a good metal salvage spot, etc., and start churn'n out the stuff you can't buy. And if you do a really good job there are few 100 owners here that will likely sign up to be your customers (i.e. skid plates, belly pan, etc.) :D

100 series SLIDING Windows Please?

Ayone know if these are being made? It's the only thing keeping me from trading up from my 80.
