Every once in a while my push button start just makes a clicking sound or does nothing at all. After I turn LC off and try again it usually works after 3-4 tries. Most of the time it works perfectly. Has anyone else experienced this issue? This problem started about two weeks ago and only occurs about 1 out of every 10-12 starts. Yes I did change out the key fob batteries.

Thanks, Mike

It may be the battery. Mine did the same thing recently. Oddly enough, it had me scratching my head for a bit because the symptomology was different than my other vehicles with a dying battery. It made little sense that it would finally start after multiple attempts. After I placed a new battery it fired up right away and no issues for a month now.

That makes sense, I honestly can't remember the age of my current battery but I'll check.

What's your mileage?

Definitely make sure you have a good battery, but know that it might be the starter telling you it is going to die.

if the battery is good, your starter may be going out. how many miles on the truck? starters seem to die around 140K. There's a thread on replacing the starter, and how to "Jump" it if it dies completely and leaves you stranded somewhere.

if you go through Toyota, a new starter will run you close to $400. Napa has remanufactured Toyota starters for around $300. AVOID the autozone crap starters!!! they are only $180, but may fail the first day! mine did. it takes several hours and much patience to change our yourself. not too technical, just really difficult to get to. I think others here paid $700 to have a dealership swap it out.
