Hey Stephen,

How did this turn out? Did jiggling a wire solve the issue once and for all? :D

Well, I went deep and checked all fuses again and then I found this. Evidently a mechanic had at this issue judging by the frayed wire.

Wow, glad to hear you figured this out. If I'm not mistaken, that part is 82620-60030

This is really interesting.

Was the stranded wire that was put there to bridge the open fuse loose at the screw terminals?

Can someone explain what this fusible link protects and if it accounts for the low running voltages?

Whoever did that (bridged a fusible link fault w/ wire) should no longer be called a "mechanic."..... "butcher," or maybe "saboteur"....

In an extreme emergency, to try and limp home, sure.... but it's never a good idea to tempt fate. Fuses of any kind are there to protect other, much more expensive and dangerous things from blowing. VERY glad you found this!

I registered just to say that I had the instrument cluster die also. Mine is a manual diesel HZJ105 (Aus). Brake lights weren't working either.

Looking around with a multimeter, I noticed the alternator wasnt putting out anything. Strangely enough, the car started and ran perfectly. What was really weird was that if I put my foot on the brake (closed switch) and pressed the emergency brake on my trailer brake controller (applied 12v) the instrument cluster came to life and the alternator started putting out 14.5-15V. (but battery wasn't charging properly). I traced everything back to the fusible link assembly and it looked exactly like that picture, broken in the exact same spot and a dodgy wire bridging the gap.

Only had the car for less than 5000km so not sure how long the hack job was there and why it stopped working.
I'm ordering the part now, hope it fixes my problem also.

Out off interest, anyone have any idea why I could get the instrument cluster and alternator to come to life by putting 12V through the brake switch? If that's what I was doing 🤔

Edit: Once I did the brake trick, I didn't need to keep my foot on the brake or anything, it must have triggered something, and the car worked almost normally.

I had the exact same thing happen. I checked every fuse and relay in all 3 boxes, then found this thread. Sure enough, this is the fusible link Good lesson for me, search this forum before tinkering. There cant be anything on a 100 series that someone on here hasn't broke and described how to fix ;)
