Hi there,
I have been lurking long enough over here. I had no idea finding a UZJ100 would be so tough. So time to say hi and ask what's up? It seems like on the West Coast they are lasting a few days for sale and then they're gone. Is some evil genius buying them up?? ;-) Was there a recent writeup extolling the virtues of the 100 that I've not yet read and drooled over??
Anyway...Hello!
I'm currently based in Sausalito, CA and I"ve loved Land Cruisers since 1978 when I first saw a red FJ40- with mud all over the roof -coming off of a forest road near Denver. My current '84 FJ60 was recently hit and will likely be an insurance total loss. I was already looking to replace it with a stock 100, 2003 or newer, with around 100k miles, just not quite as abruptly.
All right, back to the search.
Cheers,
Matt

I'm looking for a really clean truck, either a 100 or a 60/62. I've noticed the clean ones go quick for both series. You really have to stay on top of the current offerings out there, and grab it quick when it pops up.

I came from a super nice FJ62 (I still regret selling it but had to because of finances to get another car to replace it) and bought a 2006 100 series in great shape with 95K miles on it.

I was lucky to find one 5 miles from my house and people didn't know what a Landcruiser really was around that small town.

My advice:

Be willing to travel to get a good deal. You will be money ahead to buy one from a mud member that has likely already baselined and modded it to some extent, saving you some $$$$ and giving you more confidence that there is likely much less or nothing bad covered up for the new owner.

The 06-07 has more power and lots of options for comfort (rear air, etc.), but they bring a premium.

The earlier models had rear locker as an option but had a weaker front diff as well...

I saw your updated classified about the wreck... that is just nuts and I hope your neighbor's insurance company treats you right. I have a tan '85, very similar to yours.

As for finding a 100 - be prepared to spend a few months looking, be prepared to travel, and be prepared to jump on something as soon as it comes up. That's what worked for me. I looked for a few months on CL, Auto Tempest (aggregates multiple for sale sites), and ended up finding my 2000 in the 'Mud classifieds, for sale in Reno. Drove up and looked at it the next day, agreed on a price and flew back to pick it up a week later. No regrets, except the 2003+ 5-speed tranny would be nice. You'll be stoked.

Sorry about the other cruiser!

That makes two of us. I found my 60 here on Mud, and believe it or not it was only two blocks away hiding in a garage! I will never part with the 60 but would like to sell my 4Runner and get an 06/07 100. I am working in Ca, so I too am looking here. I've left notes on nice 100's. Patience I suppose.

After impatiently searching through the limited supply of 100s I decided to buy an 08 200 series instead. No timing belt and a 6speed tranny sealed the deal for me.
I still want a 100, but I wasn't prepared to wait. Just became the registered owner this evening. Still adjusting to the idea. :-)

@earthsurfer , my first drive in a 200 made me want one. I love my 80 and my 100, but the 200 is a different animal. I guess it's too late to sell you my 2004 100. ;) enjoy!

Finding a nice 100 is all about patience and luck imho. I saw mine on a dealer's website and drove 3 hours to see it that day. When I decided to purchase, they told me they had just taken ownership of it the day before and that another guy was waiting to test drive it. Just lucky I guess! Anyway enjoy the 200, it's gotta be a beast!

Did you see the 07 in LA? I talked to them about that vehicle, but they said it was not 100% non smoking- that they knew the PO and he " didn't smoke in it very often." So they said.

Thank you. We will see. I'm cautiously optimistic, especially in the off road department. I know it will be quite an adjustment from the lifted 60 in terms of clearance.
