Wiring
Just bought some Hella 500 driving lamps. Something cheap, but reasonable for now. The instructions they came with are obviously, like most things, horrible. Needless to say, I have had quite the time hooking up the wiring harness.

1. So far I have the Lights mounted, grounded and the leads running to the relay.

2. The relay is grounded, attached to the (+) battery pole, and another wire attaches to the switch inside the cab.

3. The switch is grounded, and attached to the relay as said before. The lights DO NOT turn on.

Now, the switch diagram in the instructions is different than the one it came with. They show another wire going from the switch to the high beams of the original headlights. I indeed have another connection on the switch, but I don't see any reason to attach this to the high beam unless I want them to come on when the high beams do.

I think the way I have them wired should work, but it does not. They are getting NO power???? My grounds and connections are good (I think).

Any help would be great.

Cheers

Cruiser headlights are switched by the ground not the positive, this often cuases headaches and confusion. So if your following the Hella instructions it aint gonna work.

yes there is no need to wire to the high or low beams but that wire will need power to make the lights work.

the other wire will not go from the switch but from the relay.

Landpimp,

"the OTHER wire will not go from the switch but from the relay"

Could you explain this in a little more detail. This is my first wiring job on the cruiser, besides the CB. So, I wire the relay to the negative on the battery? I really appreciate the help.

I will have to look at one of mine to tell ya better.

but it should be something like this

relay. wire from the battery to relay, wire(or 2) to lights, wire to ground, wire from dash switch to relay.

someplace and it might be on the relay(i forget), there is a "triger" wire that needs to go someplace, this is suppose to be so that the lights only come on when on low(or high) beam. On most cars this would go to the headligts(low or high) but you can also run it to the parking light, this way as long as the parking lights are on you can turn the lights on or off and when you turn the car off the lgiths will go off automaticly.

i have the same lights hooked up. mine work perfectly. look at the switch they gave you. if the switch has the same connections as the switch instructions then use the switch instructions instead. i think hella used to use a different switch and thats why the original wiring diagram is wrong. i think the old style switch had two wire connections and the new switch has three. just look at the instructions a little longer. its not too hard.. i hooked mine up and i suck at wiring lol

Yeah, your right tclndcrz,

The switch in the instructions has two connections, and my switch has three. I would like to be able to turn on the Hella lights without having any of high, low, or parking lights on. I guess I have to run power to the switch? Is this what I am missing?

Thanks LP and tclndcrz, anymore input would be great.

Cheers

The switch they show is a non-lighted version, and yours has an LED I bet. Yeah, you need a power source to the switch, either a 'switched' power source or a constant power source, I recommend a switched power source. To find one you'll need a voltage tester.

no power at lights

I wired the lights with Hella wires but ran the wire to batt. instead of bright lights have power at switch inside truck but 0 volts at black wire for driving lights, been messing with this for 2 days now all grounds are good need help...........Thanks in advance.......

Yes.

I tapped into my parking lights - but you could tap into any circut on the truck I suppose. Some are only switched on by the key, some are always hot. Depends what you want.

Hey man, he searched! That is what we always tell people to do. Hope it worked out lreza.
