We are planning on taking a two day, one night trip through the h ellhole trail alone. We have a capable rig that has done the rubicon. Is it a bad idea to run the trail alone? *Is the trail pretty rigorous? And are there people up there so in case we do find ourselves in trouble we can get help. Thanks, SC

never seen any trail up there before. where in hell hole?

There's a trail that leads to the back side of the resevoir. The trail is only about 3 miles long and is suppose to have some difficult parts. That's pretty much all we know about it. If anyone has more information please share.
Thanks, SC

Always a good idea to have another rig when your going into rugged areas. I personally would NOT run that alone.

I've been to Hell Hole three times. First time we boated in, 2nd time we backpacked in and the third time we arrived at about 5pm and wheeled most of it in on this trail. We only went about 3/4 the way though since we had to be back home early the next day and my friend in his 80 was running low on fuel. We grabbed a campsite near the trail head.

The ranger station is right next to the trail entrance. And the boat dock is relatively close to the ranger station. Not a lot of people come to Hell Hole but if they are going, they will be right there within walking/hiking distance. IMO, a locked 80 with 33's and a winch would be fine on this trail (for what we saw). Of course, it is never good to go alone on any trail. Why don't you just post up a thread and invite other cruisers?

Hell Hole reservoir is really nice though. I brought my wetsuit one time (water was pretty cold) and the visibility was about 40 ft and the water was an emerald green color. Was able to catch about 75 crawdads during sunset and had those for dinner! Caught plenty of fish too.

With protection like sliders and rear bumper.

Sorry, yes, with 2" lift and sliders.

We did decide to go and I will give full details along with photos on a different thread but the trail is really rough and there are a lot of steep ledges and rock fields. Coming back up the trail we ran into a problem at a spot most don't go down in the first place and we found why. We came close to rolling and needed to use Our winch to get us out. A rig with 33s and a 2inch lift would not make it through. On the way down to the lake it is easy to drop down the ledges but coming back up the mountain is very difficult, but like I said there is only one very bad spot. I highly advise to have 35s and at least a 6 inch lift with a winch.
