Driving thru quite hilly and steep terrain my 1986 BJ74 MWB for some un apparent reason gear selection was not possible.
After towing the old bus home, found that a new clutch seemed the appropriate thing to do.
Now its a 3.4L turbo diesel running 32X12.5 cooper STT , ultimate suspension with a 2 inch lift.
A friend advised me to install a exedy safari tuff clutch but as I'm no expert on these things I was hoping someone had experience with this problem and could steer me in the right direction. Help!!!!

where you at? QLD if so I give you a number you can contact - He can assist you with a Exedy clutch.

Exedy clutch sounds correct.

Please fill in your details on your location.

Sounds like driver technique needs attention - how many K's on the 74 and how long you had it?

yeah i'm constantly reminding myself to update my detail in which I will endevor to do so in the next coming days.
Thanks for the insight on the brand of clutch I should be looking at, I'm in Melbourne, and the MWB has done 330,000 km's, not nessarally hard kilometres but chugged thru some of Australia's uncharted territories (with the original clutch mind you)
I will update my profile and upload some pics of the old bus, once again thanks for the friendly advice! Much obliged

You might want to think about which Exedy clutch you get. Their heavy duty clutches work well but I was sick of the effort required to push the pedal in after 3-4 years.
Im putting a new clutch in my troopy soon and Im going with something that will need less effort
If your not towing ,you might want to consider their standard or sports clutch.

Do'sent The Safari Tuff pressure plate have copper pads which can score a flywheel badly over time.

Ive never heard of that happening with the safri tuff. All clutch plates score the flywheel over time, driving habits are big cause

Hi mate, I have used Exedy clutches in my Cruiser and Hilux.

I used a Safari Tuff in the cruiser, and Sports in my Hilux, neither have had a single problem, and they don't get treated nicely :P

I have also heard good things about Terrain Tamer clutches. Any of these can be bought on eBay if you like your online shopping too :)

Well the problem with buying clutch kits online is that it'd void a warranty a mechanic would give you. basically, they wouldn't do the job.
I suppose it's a supply and fit kind of thing.
In regards to choosing a clutch I opted to go for the exedy heavy duty clutch and I can say that it's outstanding. it's not to overwhelming on depressing the clutch pedal - and off road it's very responsive! So a big huge thumbs up

Nonsense,Ive bought a number of parts from suppliers (including online) and had mechanics fit them.
A mechanic is only repsonsible for the labour he puts in .If the part is proven to be faulty then the manufacturer or supplier of the part is responsible.

Well okay nevertheless the days aren't long enough for me to chase around for a competitive price either sourcing one online or wholesaler.
I am happy with what I paid and the service and knowledge of my mechanic with the 4X4
