with my iron Pig bumper set up. I'm back to the rear drivers sag.
i have new springs, and a 1-1/2 shackle lift. Is there any way to even out that one side so it doesnt drive me nuts every time i come up from behind?
add-a-leafs would help, but would raise both sides, and the tilt would stll be there.
unless i can install them on one side?
or both sides, and them put a spacer under the pass side to even out the sag?
or air shocks ( i have hear they dont last.)
how about load-leaveling shocks? since they are self leveling, i would think the heavier side would level out?
or should i just live with it, and worry about more pressing stuff, which, thank god, i see nothing pressing right now.
basically, it just drives me nutts!

how much does the bumper weigh? sorry im of no help but am about to order springs and need to know the load weights so i dont run into this

with the swing away and tire, about 175 lbs.

thanks a bundle hammer

Not sure how much sag you have...but I remember an article on CCOT (I think) about curing cruiser lean. As I recall the solution was to put a spacer block inbetween the spring and the axle. You do this to the corner that's opposite to the low side. So, if the right rear is low, then the spacer goes on the front left. Lowering the front left raises the right rear.

I think I've got that correct...

I thought in this issue so much .. my option ..

air shocks

i've used air shocks - both monroe and gabriel on all of my cruisers since the '1970's - fj40's, 60's, 62's and an 80 and even on my 3/4 ton 4wd suburban. the shocks have been on the sub for 10 years as a daily driver and shop vehicle. i have never had any problem with any of the air shocks. the vehicle usually gave it up before the shocks.

you can set them up either to work together or independently of one another. the real advantage to them is when trailering or carrying heavy loads or trailering with high tongue weights. i keep a combo 12 V air compressor, jump starter, fluorescent lamp and small inverter ( http://www.vectormfg.com/catalog/vec022apc-startit-maxx-jumpstart-system-p-336.html - cheap insurance and great for everything... give me one of these and some duct tape if you send me to the moon - it is one of the best and most useful tools i have ever owned. enough people gave me $ 5 after i jumped them for a 6 pack or whatever to pay for it ) in the truck i am using and air tires and shocks as most appropriate for the conditions. you can't find a gas station with air any more. the shocks can be aired up or down depending upon load and they make a real difference in comfort when on the road. i would not hesitate to put them on a 60 or 62 unless you were turning it into a rock crawler.

i liked the gabriel's better since they were white instead of that GAUDY yellow. the part # for the monroes for the FJ60 is MA728 and costs $ 75.83 – pep boys and a little less at some of the other discount parts houses. i am pretty sure gabriel's part # for the hi-jacker for the fj60 is 49311. i have a bud that has an alignment shop and he usually gives them to me at cost. but he knows how many vehicles i have.

did you have a site to buy those air shocks .. ?

buy shocks at:

napa, advance auto parts, discount auto parts, auto zone, on the net do search for air shocks and then shopzilla them... like i said my friend knows how many vehicles i have and is not discounting so that i can ship. really those stocks are stock and available even at sears.

gabriel's are a little harder to find then monroes but they are easily located on the net... i have almost always found that by the time you have paid shipping and handling the local's guy's price is pretty spot on unless of course it is a big purchase and you are trying to cheat on your sales tax. the deal in florida is that if you buy on the net and do not pay florida sales tax it is still due to the state and you are actually breaking the law by not reporting it.

nevertheless... it is your decision.

How about a heavier co-pilot?

Thanks for the info .. so did you have a pic for your airshocks setup .. ? how much air in your aplication . ?

took ity to a suspension guy ( recomended ) this weekend.
he took a look, and we measured a full 1-1/2" difference in height from one side to the other.
he is going to mull it over for a day or two, look at options.
one was,of corse, add-a-leafs, along with a shim to lower the opposing side, but 1-1/2" was kind of a lot.
he also thought that maybe the spring is just plain old shot, and the added extra weight of the bumper/ tire made the lean that much more. funny, the springs are only about three years old, with not so much miles.
so, it might be add-a-leafs, shims, new spring/springs, or a combination of a few things.
keep you posted, since i gotta do someting.
thanks for the input, guys

air shock pics

have no pics of air shock install since the fj60 i have is brand new to me and shocks for it are on order and not here yet... ordered gabriels from auto zone online website... will take pics after they are in and post here... since it rides level in the back side to side i will most likely install a T splitter with hose to both shocks and valve near rear bumper for airing up or down. this is how they are on the suburban and it has been ideal. easy to get to.

the fj62 that had monroes on was crushed by a tree so the insurance company has it at a scrap yard somewhere where they have already sold off most of the useable parts.

always had big dogs in the back on the passenger side no lean here. I would look at new springs with the sag in mind.

update.

Dropping the rig off at the suspension guy, who's bought in add-a-leafs, shims, AND new springs, so he can see what he can do with the crazy tilt.
says whatever he doesnt use, he can return, so i HOPE he's honest enough when it comes to parts needed.
worst case, about 5 bills. that i can handle, since i dont have the time.
we will know monday.

update

seems my CCOT spings i had bought 5 years ago are BROKEN!
i guess you get what you pay for.
trucks up on the lift, i need it, because i get 400 a day for work.
so i got MAF to send out next day two Dakar springs, and assorted bushings and stuff.
should be at the shop tuesday am, and the truck should be back tues. PM
