Any ideas what would cause the heater on a 97 Acura TL to blow hot only when the vehicle is moving? It still blows the same volume when still, but all cold.

Thanks for any thoughts.

How's your coolant level.

One of the first things to go with low coolant is the amount that goes through the heater core.

Good question ... I just checked it and it was a little low (took maybe .5 liter) in the radiator, and reservoir was totally dry.

We just recently got this car on the cheap and due to my recent blown HG on the 80 :whoops: I haven't had time to baseline it yet.

Anyway, just topped it off ... I'll see how it does tomorrow.

Thanks.

...also might be a bad thermostat...

Good point ... I've got other symptoms of a bad thermostat, mainly that the fan runs pretty much all the time, even after I stop the engine on a really cold day.

A stuck open t-stat would give you no heat.

A stuck closed t-stat would cause the fan to run.

A bad fan switch would cause the fan to run along with a stuck open or partial stuck open t-stat would cause no heat except on the highway.

Thanks for the good information. It's my wife's car, and I haven't been in it for the last few days but will take it out tomorrow and see how it does.

So any idea where the fan switch typically is on Acura/Honda 6's? No manual on this one yet, and short of my FJ80 I've done very little auto repair.
