I just noticed the bottom of my Yeti Rambler got quite warm after sitting in the cup holder for a while. The heat seemed to come from the bottom of the cup holder. Is it a "feature" or an anomaly I should look into?

we have noticed the same thing happening w/ our Yeti's too. i figured that it was the tranny like @bamabrock said, add in a little bit of texas summer/sun and black cupholders and voila! heated cupholders.

and they do get pretty hot considering there's nothing directly below them - i even pulled them to see if there was some piece of electric equip down there like an amp or something that the PO may have installed.

. . . or some sound proofing. It works too.

I had a Subaru Forester that had cup holders directly in front of the a/c vents... I could put a hot canned drink in the holder and it would be COLD in a matter of minutes... may not seem like much but on hot southern days... that was a pretty nice feature that should have been in a sales brochure....

I put some Fatmat on the transmission tunnel when I had the console off for other reasons. Really cooled down the cupholders.

Cork also works well. Find a thin sheet and cut out the cupholder pattern. Inexpensive, grips a cup well, and absorbs spills.

I noticed the same thing when i brought mine home. Figured it was either the transmission, or i was just crazy. I was giving 50/50 odds either way. Im going to try the cork idea since the cup holders aren't very deep to start with.

I've noticed this too with all my cups. My concern was that it was not normal and that maybe my transmission was trying to tell me something was wrong. Anybody have input on what normal operating temp is for the trans or trans fluid so i can check it out with my IR thermometer.
