Heat shield, help with part number

Hi folks
The heat shield on my muffler fell off, it's completely rusted thru.
I can't find it anywhere. I did find the cat heat shield, but the one I need is nowhere ti be found.

The one that fell off was "cylindrical". Had the same shape as the muffler, cut in two halves.
Didn't think on taking a picture before throwing it away.
Basically the lower part fell off and only stayed hanging by one corner. When I started pulling it, the top part came with it.
The top part had some sort of insulation that looked like a white rag or cloth.

I have to do the oil change today, will crawl under it and see what it really is.

Maybe I misunderstood you then. You said muffler but that it was cylindrical and I took that to mean it went around the whole thing, which the muffler heatshield does not do but the cat heatshield does.
Either way you don't need it.

Ok, this is very weird.
The muffler heat shiekd is still on, is the same as in the picture above.

Only thing I can think off is that was an outer layer of the muffler because it had the exact same shape.

I've had that happen, where the outside of the muffler rusted enough to come apart, but not fall off. Of course the muffler was a lot louder.

Mine was pretty loud before, so no change on the sound. Would be very difficult to get any louder.

From the info you've given I'd say your muffler came apart and it's time for a new one.

Yeah, I think you're right.
My muffler is rusted thru since the day I bought the truck, never replaced it because I kind of like the rumble the V8 makes, but now is falling apart, sooo..... there goes another $140....

Naw, cut it off, weld in straight pipe and run with it.
