Just about to install carpet that @Tupelo Honey set me up with - and I remember how hot the transmission tunnel always was - particularly the exhaust side - what's the group wisdom on thin self-adhesive heat barrier material? (am I imagining this product?)

I used a heat/sound deadening adhesive mat product (Ballistic Hollow Point), and a pad (Dynamat Dynapad) that does the same thing under my rubber flooring. It does much better than the factory carpet/backing.

It comes in double side foil now too. Much easier with foil tapes now. Gone up quite a bit, but we use under all of our personal builds and 90% of customer builds.

I put down some of the foiled backed sticky tiles to absorb noise and then put a mass loaded vinyl over the entire floor. In the passenger side floorboard I used the same mass loaded vinyl that had a reflective foil layer. Used it under the passaged seat and all around the shifter. Overall it helped a lot in keeping the floor and shifter area much cooler

I've purchased two different heat barriers.

DEI Floor and Tunnel Shield.

Tru-Max Heat Barrier and Sound Deadening

I installed the Tru-Max first under the carpet. I didn't like working with it and it flattened out immediately. I wasn't really impressed with the sound deadening or the heat barrier properties.

Later I installed the DEI floor and tunnel and stuck it to the bottom of the body above both the trans tunnel and above the cats. This made a much bigger difference in terms of thermal barrier. The tunnel and passenger floor wasn't cool but it was a lot more comfortable. The adhesive is really strong and has held up very well in a dirty oily, muddy environment. I initially installed the product in patches but I've considered ripping it all out and putting large sheets down.
