I have an '82 FJ40 and I have a question regarding the passenger side headrest. Currently, the headrest guide with the push botton is on the passenger's side of the seat. However, the headrest post with the notches in it is on the driver's side.

The seats have been reupholstered so I am wondering if the headrest guides where switched at that time or if I have two driver's side headrests (since it works on the driver's side). Anyone know what the correct positions for the headrest guides are?

If the guides are in the wrong positions, does anyone know how to remove them so that I can switch them around?

Thanks,

Tom

Bump...

headrest

On my 79, both latches are on the drivers side. (left side facing forward). Sounds like they might have switched the mounting piece. Jeff

Any idea on how to remove the guides so I can switch them?

No clue on that one.

79+ headrest guides

Here's what they look like out of the seat, maybe this will help you to figure out how to remove them. they snap in and are held at the bottom by the ridges on the split ends. I will part with this set available if you break yours.

Take the metal backs off the seats, disconnect the upholstery at the bottom back, reach up inside and pinch the tube together, it'll come right out.

lobo loco,

Thanks for the picture and the offer to sell me the set when I inevitably break something trying to take it apart.

Texx,

My seats don't have metal backs that I am aware of but I will take a look again tonight and try to figure out a way to get at them.

Thanks to both everyone for the help!

I will post up with the results of my adventure.

Tom

SUCCESS!!!

I was able to remove both guides (which was painful on my knuckles due to the tight spot they are in) and put them in the correct place.

A Big Thank You to Shark56 for confirming the guide positions, lobo loco for the view of the parts so I knew how I needed to get them out, and to Texx for instructions on getting to them through the back of the seat.

Tom
