To many times I have walked out to my 60 and found the battery dead because I left my dam lights on.

I also have an fj55. I moved the headlights on the 55 to only work when the ignition was set to power-on. the wiriing is a whole differnet story with the 60.

Has anyone done this in their 60?

I have seen the headhight upgrade harness but, done want to go that route.

Edit: To clarify: I was thinking to do this clean through the fuse panel and make it look "OEM"

Lots of guys have hooked a cheap radio shack type buzzer between a couple of the contacts in the fuse block, giving a lights on buzz when the ignition is turned off. That wouldn't require any surgery. Try a search, and if you find nothing, I can check my truck for which contacts to run between.

It's in the best mods under $50 thread. You hook one wire to the guage fuse and the other can go to the headlight fuse or the taillight fuse. The difference being whether it warns you if you left your headlights on or warning you if you left either healdlights or parking lights on. I went with the latter.

I have used both the radio shack buzzer and the chime. The buzzer is two wires and I believe it is not polarity sensitive. The chime uses three wires (+, -, and a blue wire which turns on the chime when it is grounded). With the chime, the red wire goes to the head/tail light fuse and the blue and black wires can be joined together and tapped into the guage fuse.

Great mod. I would love to take credit for the mod and the idea to tap into the fusebox, but somebody smarter than I figured it out and saved a bunch of use absent minded folks from being stranded.

You can always put a switch between the buzzer and +12 for those times you actually want your ligths on and the key off - like FJ45 RUN!

I thought only women left their headlights on :D

Oh Landpimp, I love all your landcruisers. Have you ever done this mod?

The buzzer idea is a good one but, I was hoping someone modified the fuse panel or something.

I guess I misunderstood. You are just talking about using a switched power lead for your headlights rather than an always hot lead. Seems like it would be simple enough to do, but I know there are numerous times I want the lights on when the engine isn't (part of the reason I switched to the chime from the buzzer).

I like the timer idea too, but I haven't seen it done on a cruiser.

:lol:I was kidding:flipoff2:

Ok in all honesty the best way would be the buzzer..........Why you ask.. if you wired you lights to a igntion (key) source you would need to have the key turned on:meh: you do not want that but HOWEVER you could use the GM parts to wire it up like on a timer. I am sure you have noticed the lights go out on most GMs after a certain time...same goes for the dome lights etc etc.

That's what I thought you were talking about when you mentioned the timer :flipoff2:

I am liking this idea. Much more involved than what I had in mind but, always seems to work out that way anyway.

My wifes 04 runner has a timer of some sort that does this with the dome lights, mapp lights, headlights, and parking lights. I could go with the runner version and keep it toyota :)

Its VERRY simple. Take a very small wire from any source that's switched by key and run to a RELAY near the headlights. It would be great to use a relay from any car that is timer delayed, but not necessary. The small wire operates the relay, circuit hot, relay on, circuit off, relay off. Just bring a heavy guage wire straight from the battery--install a 30 am inline fuse--and beef up the wire from the relay to the headlights while you are at it. Better lights and no worries about leaving lights on anymore. When you understand relays, you realize they are just wonderful. Great for anti-theft circuits too.
