There is no need to be, the max speed limit anywhere in the country is 100kmh and they have a bell scientifically designed to drive you insane if you exceed that speed. The Germans have a real need to be fastidious with their higher speeds, even though in reality their average speeds on the autobahn are not much higher than people drive on rural freeways on the west coast. Most people drive about 130-140kmh because of fuel costs, small car size, etc, but there are the few that go faster, and some much faster. (I was passed outside Stugart by a Porsche 996 that made me look like I was standing still and I was going 200km/h).
