There is no need to be, the max speed limit anywhere in the country is 100kmh and they have a bell scientifically designed to drive you insane if you exceed that speed. The Germans have a real need to be fastidious with their higher speeds, even though in reality their average speeds on the autobahn are not much higher than people drive on rural freeways on the west coast. Most people drive about 130-140kmh because of fuel costs, small car size, etc, but there are the few that go faster, and some much faster. (I was passed outside Stugart by a Porsche 996 that made me look like I was standing still and I was going 200km/h).

Doug,

Sorry to disappoint!

This was not the first time and won't be the last, either, I'm sure.

Cary,

LOL!

They got rid of that a while ago you old fart! :D

But I believe that they still do have the speed limiter set at 180km/h, unless you override it, of course. ;)

Yeah, I'm familiar with those bells. I once drove a Saudi spec FJ40 we had in the country to study, from LA to Gorman to go wheeling. It had that speed thing and I finally could take it no more and pulled to the side of 1-5 to deal with it. Took the tool kit's screwdriver and pounded it into the thing after a careful 10 minutes of trying to find the actual noise maker. Got lucky as they don't make it easy.

DougM

Are you talking about the rectangular ones that are amber in the US or the ones over the front fenderwells that did not come in the US-spec 80?

Of course I know what you are talking about. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I'll let you know when you know anything.

Doug,

How did you explain that one to your boss, random malfunction? Or were you padded on the back? :D

Mot ;)

Neither. This rig wasn't driven much - sat in a Toyota warehouse along with a couple GT2000s, etc.

Just a couple of 2000GT's, etc... eh? ;) :D

There wasn't a GT2000 and you meant 2000GT, right? ;)

Yes, LOSER! Did I not make it clear to you that I was kidding and that I knew what you were talking about? :censor: ;) :D

The ad for one of them (not sure if they all get them from the same source/manufacturer) is supposedly in this month's Land Cruiser Magazine, so I'll try to get my hands on them (there wasn't one at near-by book store).

Mot :)

Funny, my bro in law whom I used to work with at Toyota is sitting in the room with me and we debated back and forth for a second whether it was a GT2000 or 2000GT. We were both Product Planners. He was also a Product Planner for Mitsubishi who brought us the 3000GT. So, we got them confused and blew it. Nice - thanks.

Doug,

3000GT's are no slouch either, though. (Especially the VR-4 model). ;)

I have, but with my experience they are rather pricey(sp) even though their products, supposedly, are good.

Last I checked they didn't offer any aftermarket corner marker lenses, just the rectangular front blinkers, side markers, and the rear clear (and crystal) lenses.
But it's been a while since I checked it last.

Those headlights look nice mot, kind of makes it look like a modern front end (how all headlights are like that nowadays I mean).

That's what I thought, too.

It's a shame that they would not work for the US 80's though. :frown:

can't you just flip the bulb/mounts for LHD?

You better delete the above post before Cary or Doug sees it! ;)

Both sides of the headlights have the same light pattern (flat from left to right, with a little (sharp?) rise as it gets closer to the right so it could light the signs and pedestrians on the side of the road.

That would be exactly opposite with the RHD cars in Japan, the UK, Austraria, etc... meaning if you used lights designed for Japan in the US, for example, you would be blinding the oncoming traffic and not being able to see pedestrians and signs adequately, making it extremely hazardous(sp).

If the low beams were projectors then you might/should be able to make a quick internal modification to make it go from RHD to LHD fairly easily. But unfortunately, that's not the case with those multi-reflector units. :frown:

Bummer!

I hope I explained it adequately.
