Yo... Headlights are acting strange again. This is on a 1985 HJ75. Taillights are fine, turn signals, running lights...

When I switch them on, the headlights don't come on but the high-beam dash indicator light illuminates. When I switch to high-beam, all works as expected.

My analysis leads me to the steering column switch because everything else works and the switch controls what gets connected to ground and allows current to flow. What perplexes me is the high-beam dash light coming on; and it is brighter on low beam than high beam. The HL bulbs are pretty new, as I've been down this road before. Possibly voltage is leaking across the light fixture? I doubt it's grounding or nothing would work right.
Appreciate y'alls thoughts.

Here is the wiring diagram. Pink line should be low beam and orange should be high beam if this FSM diagram is correct. But why is the indicator light on the low beam line? And how does it operate when high beam is selected?

Pink line doesn't look like it should be low beam the way it's tied to the high beam indicator. So I don't know if the wiring is wrong or the schematic is.

Any way the wiring at the headlight connector got switched on one bulb? Like a hi and low switched on one bulb?

Found a burnt pin in the connector under the steering column. Cleaned it up and got it working for now. Ordering a new dimmer switch to replace at least half the connection.

The schematic is correct. Electricity takes the path of least resistance and the high beam indicator has resistance. When the low beams are on, there is a direct path to ground thru the switch so the light gets no juice.

When high beams are on, the pink line still gets voltage but it flows thru the HB indicator since there is no other ground. At least that’s my analysis.
