Hello. I am new to this forum. I have a 1978 chinook mini-motor home. But basically the issue falls into pickup category. A year ago, the dims quit working, so I have to drive with brights on all the time. This style has 4 headlights, and only 2 light up for dims position. I have been told by someone that it is the headlight relay. I bought a substitution at a parts store, but it does not work at all, for brights or dims. It is a multi-purpose relay they said and all they could get. A local toyota dealer says they cannot get that part; vehicle is too old and they don't want to talk to me.
Any advice or direction? Am I wrong in thinking it is in the relay? Is there a great online source for detailed guidance that anyone knows of? I have a Chilton's book for pickups 1970-81 and it is pretty good, but no detailed discussion about just this problem.

Not familiar with your rig. I'd guess the issue is in the Hi beam/Low beam switch. Is the cab based on a Hilux or mini truck? If you don't get the issue figured out. Post up a picture of your stalk in the 95-older Toyota truck forum. I doubt this General Tech forum gets much traffic.

Hey thanks. Problem was just burned out filaments in the 2 outer bulbs (the rig has 4). I am not really bright when it comes to electrical stuff, and the outer ones came on along with the 2 inner bulbs for brights position, so... I thought well it is not the bulbs because they come on so are not burned out. But apparently the low-beam filaments on those outer bulbs was burned out but not other filament. So... working perfectly now. Thanks again, and I will hopefully be able to keep your guidance to go into that other forum. BTW, I don't understand about "hilux". I think mine is just the standard long-bed pickup style with the camper body set on it. It is only 18' long. I've seen lots of reference to hilux... curious. Someday I will have oodles of time to peruse and get familiar with ALL models. Sure happy to have mine roadworthy now; legit and all.
