Taking the family up to the North Rim this weekend and staying in Kanab, daughter is down from Montana this week. Any short drives (4 to 5 hours) out of Kanab to the canyons up north you folks can recomend?

South of Kanab but check out White Pockets White Pocket

Up Skutumpah Road (BLM500 on google maps) to Cannonville, then back down Cottonwood Canyon to the 89. Willis Creek, Bull Valley Gorge, probably others. Grosvenor Arch. Hit up Paria River Valley Road on the way back. There's a nice shady area at the end of the road you can park and hang out in the water.

Vermilion Cliffs.

Will be hot this time of year.

How old is your daughter? Serious question
21. She has been attending school at the University of Montana. She took the last semester off so she could establish residency in Montana. I hate her... ;)

Went up last weekend. Wonderful trip but wish we had a LOT more time. Need to spend at least a week up there, two would be better. Thank you all for the suggestions, absolutely what I was looking for! Here are some pics, unfortunately, they do not do the area justice. Especially White Pocket. THANK YOU GUYS!

Unfortunately, when trying to post the photos, I keep getting a security error. Here is a link:

Great pics, thanks for the stoke!

Great pics! Thanks for sharing.

Did you run Cottonwood Canyon N-S or S-N? Or up to the arch and back? Did you see the cockscomb?

How was the weather? I would expect it to be very hot this time of year, but it looks fantastic.

I am going to try to plan a trip up there in October, and see some areas I haven't been like Sedona, North Rim, Vermillion Cliffs, Horseshoe Bend, etc.

Ran it north to south. My daughter was not feeling well and I did not get to explore as much as I wanted. Weather was excellent. We were getting a lot of rain the previous 3 days and it was still partly to mostly cloudy. Temps did reach the upper 80s and maybe the low 90s when running this road but for this time of year, you can't beat that!

Yes, this is an interesting feature. It appears to be part of a fault line that runs about a 100 miles or so. Very impressive.
