Well, I was working on the 45 yesterday when I noticed that the fan belt looked a little bit *off*.

Mike, there are two different single groove pulleys for the F. You obviously need the deeper one.

Prolly the story of your life, eh? :flipoff2:

So, being the curious cat that I am I pulled the alternator only to find that somewhere in the past an owner *fixed* a broken alternator bracket by using JB Weld. I don't have any pics, but the bracket was snapped in two by the front mounting bolt, and there was a huge mess of JB weld all over everything.

So, I pulled out the welder, grinder, and some black rustoleum, and my belt is all lined up again. :)

I guess I expect to find some funny things on a 40 year old truck, but I have to admit that holding the alternator on with JB Weld did take me by surprise.

Just thought I'd share.

Mine's busted in the same spot. I'll go for a used one that is unbroken though, assuming I stick with the F engine.

my 64 45LV uses a spacer bushing at the waterpump. but that was only on cruisers with a generator, all 45LPB's had an alt from the day they were made

surprised you don't throw the belt all the time...

John, quite a few of the early rigs used that spacer, not just the LV. The 68 FJ55 resto I worked on last year also used the spacer. I put a brand new one in when I overhauled the cooling system. :)
