Question I have is regarding the JDM HDJ_81's. Are there any noticeable differences in the 90-95 model year 80's? Which transfer case do they use, the viscous or non-viscous? The only difference I have been able to find is that from 93 on they had bigger brakes. I will be purchasing an 80 series, no question, I just have to decide on the model year. TIA

I'm not 100% sure, but they pretty much follow the USDM models.

95-97 they got a different dash and tranny. Around '95 the diesel engine changed to a 1HD-FT (24 valve DOHC).

In general the starting in 95 there were several changes to the 80 series and that does cary over to models outside the US:

1. Dash was changed

2. Automatic transmssion was changed (AF442 to AF343??) in any case the transmission got the 2nd gear start back (drop it after 90 model year)

3. On american models they added Air bags, and side door impact bars, also slight adjustment on restraint system, more adjustable. I say on US models because not all other countries had these requirement, I do know that the Chez republic did also have these changes.

4. The change to the 1HD-FT was made (somewhere around 95') I am not sure about the trany/tranfer case mine has the H151 trany and I am not sure if the earlier one was that or the H55F or R151...Wayne you know right?

5. Some other things you can find in JDM or other country models are heated seats, rear fog lights, center console cooler, adjustable headlights, altimiter, inside outside temp, adjustable ride control.

Hope this helps

Cheers,

Michael
